Apples to oranges..... two separate brands not models of the same brand.

A more accurate comparison would be if you took two Rolex Submariners, one stainless and one two tone then you dropped the internals of the stainless into a Rolex two tone case and added the bracelet.

It is still a Submariner only now a two tone.

No, no it doesn't, watch the fuel gage, it might identify as 6 Prius's.

Tough one... I agree with most of the other posts - nope - not a Pro, a Faux. BUT! What about a Pro conversion?

If I can play devil's advocate here - Are the 4X van conversions not real 4x4s? Are they fake 4x4s? If Adding parts A,B,C,D and a plastic badge to the base truck make it a distinct version, then what's the difference (besides the VIN and price-gouging)? That parts A,B,C,D and plastic badge were added at the factory and not the certified mechanic across the street from the factory? Not a Pro, but I think Pro Conversion is the right term (also pronounced fake, imposter, faux, etc.) So the guys that take an OR and add parts that are far superior to the Pro parts...are they making Super Pros? ;)

I actually average the exact same mpg that I did with my 4.0 Taco in this 5.7 Tundra. Current tank average after 400 miles is 17.4mpg.. maybe three Priuses. Whats the plural of Prius, Priuseses.. Priusee? o_O

Nope, they are making Super ORs.

What really makes me laugh at this whole issue is that people don't want a Pro because it's too expensive and they can buy an OR for less and the upgrade it to be better than a Pro.....and then they want to call it the vehicle they didn't want in the first place. The bottom line is that the VIN defines what a vehicle is - not what gets added to it after manufacture...even if it is by the highly qualified Toyota mech across the street from the factory using OEM parts. To me, they will always be Prosers.

Answered in the first sentence/question: exclusive. There are people out there that just aren't happy unless they can tell someone else they have a limited run/ exclusive/special limited edition/ one-off/ etc. If that gets your juices going - great. Otherwise, who cares, really? You're right - the Pro is the the "best" you can get off the factory floor - true, but a lot of the guys right here on TW are building rigs that will leave the Pros crying on the floor.

I know someone like that. Literally everything he owns, he claims is some sort of special, limited, something or other. His Pro would be a TRD Pro Emperor Yamamoto Rising Sun Edition, $10K over MSRP with a cool sticker to prove it. Only 2 made and you have to be a Japanese native to buy one, but I know a guy. LoL...okay dude - you win. LMAO.

That's the difference between a realist and a purist; the realist knows you can build a Pro in your driveway, the purist loses his shit that you can.

As long as the truck is advertised properly for resale, Pro clone, Pro Tribute or an OR with Pro accessories, it only boils down to what the next owner is willing to pay.

    My own opinion of course.

You make my point. You can't build a Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro in your driveway. You CAN build a clone or tribute or whatever you want to call it....because the VIN defines what it is, not what it resembles.

And the VIN may not mean much to a majority of buyers in the used market, it's the capability.

You can create Pro capability in the driveway, that's the reality.

    These arent collectables.

For the people that think it is a clone of a PRO can be advertised and sold as a PRO. I would suggest and hope you never get involved with classic cars, because that attitude will get you sued at best or worse, bodily pain. Classic and muscle car people are not forgiving about small facts like misrepresentation of a clone.

No one is advocating you can sell it as an authentic Pro, they are saying you can build your own Pro Clone if you want to.

You keep making my point. "You can create Pro capability in the driveway, that's the reality." NO ONE argues that you can't replicate a Pro in your driveway or make a vehicle that is potentially better....but that still doesn't make it a Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. And I would disagree with your assertion that the VIN isn't important. It IS to someone wanting to buy a TRD Pro.
