My GF has an ‘07 Boxster S she keeps as a weekend car. Six-speed manual, big flat six motor a lot of times I drive it with the stereo off just to hear the engine! Handles like it’s on rails too.

However last October following a car accident I briefly had to commute in it for three or four days (80 mile round trip daily). It was still fun to drive but it’s hard to see out of, sits lower than I like and gets way too much attention. I’ve never turned a wrench on it nor do I want to as nothing on that car is ‘user serviceable’

All that aside the worst part for me was that after driving it for a few days was that I started becoming that Yuppie jerk that I hate! I passed an office building with reflective windows and noticed that I had the top down, A/C on, stereo blasting, hat on backwards and dark sunglasses on! I immediately put the top back-up, removed my hat and tuned the radio to talk radio at a normal level.

Porsche’s are fun weekend cars but I wouldn’t want one for my only car.

996 is the ugliest generation in my opinion. Literally any other generation. But 997s hold value really well.

The turbo variation is what it has going for it.

Some people hate the 996 b/c of the droopy headlights etc, me not too much. I think it looks sick and love how the side scoops are higher then most Porsche I've seen.

The 911 Turbo of that era does not have the IMS issue. Found in the non-turbo engine.
I've owned two Porsches, (including a 911 Turbo) both bought brand new.
About as reliable as a Toyota and they make great DDs.
Yes the 996 isn't loved by the faithful but it is one heck of a sports car.
OP should head over to Rennlist and do some reading ;-)

Lets get real here, Are there any verifiable Maintenance records? have you driven it ? are you aware of the cost of a 30K svc. Properly done? Insurance ?
Look close before you leap. Two best days of my life.........in 1985 I bought a Gray market (European Spec. ) Porsche 930 brought it in threw the port of Houston. It was everything the magazines said it would be. Once I got it threw EPA and DOT certification. (added the door beams, backed off the boost, among other things) A go kart with 250+ HP 0 to 60 in 4.5 Sec. I don't know how fast it would go, I was afraid of it. Would pass everything on the road, but a gas pump. At the time I had a pretty good Job, 4kids, a mortgage the usual stuff, My salary was $1500.00 a week + overrides and Commision. I could not afford to keep this car as a daily driver.

Non of the above, we met at a gas station while pumping gas and he liked my Tacoma and I asked him about his Porsche etc. No compromise on the trade, he has 4 car garages with 8 cars (no trucks) in them so I assume he has a lot of money as well. He gave me his p# and to call him this weekend to talk some more if I'm interested as I needed to go back to work.

Right. Great addition to the taco, but not a replacement.

My thoughts exactly. Any sports car for that matter should only be a side piece and not daily. I drove a corvette daily for a while and it honestly takes everything special from it.

probably? Is IS the least desirable.
OP there is a ton of bad info in this thread, and a few snip bits of good information. Go do the research, but bottom line, Porsche 911 go down in value for X years then go back up, The 996 (even turbo) have not hit rock bottom yet, so expect it to depreciate for a few more years before it stabilizes then will eventually go up in value. With that mileage its currently worth less than your Tacoma, with FSH potential / maybe (at a push) about even.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
First weekend when you need to bring some 2x4s home or something bigger, you too will be picking up Tacoma owners at a gas station.
