Maybe what he calls fireworks Mossad calls something else.

I am having reservations about believing that was a petroleum related BLEVE.

There were numerous secondary but smaller detonations after the initial explosion. The big blast was something else entirely.

The pictures of affected area in Beirut reminds me of the 1947 Texas City Disaster. That was caused by ammonium nitrate. Same thing happened in West, Texas at the fertilizer plant.

I mean, it's possible. There are videos of firework factories in China being blown sky high and I doubt Lebanon has strict workplace safety regulations.

Possible maybe, but I don't think so.
In my unqualified opinion, I have a difficult time beleiving that a collection of fireworks would explode in that fashion.
We may never know that happened in Beirut.

I had one of those, though I don't have a cool story like yours. :p

My Dad got a (very) used one for me when I was maybe 10? (Had a Crossman BB/ pellet gun before that).
Dunno where he got it or what he paid for it (if anything).
It was beat to crap and so ugly...but very accurate.
    He had an ulterior motive...
I was supposed to shoot groundhogs in the garden and squirrels in the bird feeder.
Which I got very good at.

When I got my Marlin 39A, I gave that old rifle to a friend's son.

There's a lot to be said for a beaten up old .22 single shot as one's first real rifle.
