I have an Owl Dash Cam and like it. The original company went bankrupt and was picked up by another and I haven’t noticed any changes or service interuptions. The down side is there is a not cheap subscription required for remote monitoring and notifications. Installation was simple.

 

Best insurance hands-down. Mine has saved my ass when his insurance pushed back after he rear-ended me and claimed I was brake checking him. Video showed the guy who cut me off and brake checked me and no funny business otherwise. Best $100 I've ever spent.

Just go with a capacitor based unit if you park in the sun constantly.

 

Could you elaborate on this? Any recommended unit? My truck will likely have to be parked outside most of the time over here. TIA.

Word. So generally speaking are they subscription type services or is it literally just a camera that records footage while driving? I’d like to not have to pay for any subscription service, just have the ability to play back footage when needed and whatnot

But none of those are leather. And luxury cars have leather.

 

Most are simply cameras that record locally when you drive. I do know some that have subscriptions where the footage is recorded 24/7 and sent to the cloud.

 

Race trucks don’t have leather nick.

 

Cool. If I were rich then I’d have no issue having a subscription service that records 24/7, but I’m not. So thanks for that nugget of info

My truck is now going to be entirely about the drivers experience. Hence the reason i'm going back to stock. So it doesnt suck

I would get one that sends stuff to the cloud or your phone. Mine got stolen and it only had a onboard memory card. So I couldn't figure out who stole my stuff.

 

I personally like BlackVue and have a DR750S in my truck. Can't recommend much else but I did have a Roav (Anker) C1 Pro previously that was a generally good camera. The BlackVue is a capacitor unit and the Roav had the lithium ion battery.

Generally, lithium ion batteries don't like heat while those with capacitors can handle extra temps. I know in the summer there were times where my Roav shut down on occasion when it sat out all day so this time I went with a better unit. I never had it stop working while driving but it did have issues when it was on for a while then sat for a few hours mid-day.
