What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Drove it to the store (had to find towel paper) and filled the tank before the gas stations lost power.
I haven't lost power as I type this.

The rides great now, don’t know how much the bushings contributed to that because I basically replaced the entire front end...
The white line bushings were a much better quality than the stock ones though. I know of one other guy who’s running the white line’s and he said it was much smoother off-road. I’ve put just under 100miles on them just going to work and back.

 

I forgot to add that I picked up my fender, charcoal canister, connectors (one is on back order) and steering wheel.

 

Changed the oil in my R155 transmission. When I bought the truck a couple years ago it seemed like it was leaking a bit from the output shaft. But it actually hasn't done that for several months, so I worried I was ridiculously low. I bought a new seal a while ago, but never got around to using it, so I figured I'd drain, change the seal and refill with redline MT90 all in one shot.
Well, my puny arms couldn't get the driveshaft bolts loose from the differential flange (even with a cheater bar), so no output seal replacement for me. I went ahead and just filled the transmission anyway. I had no pump, so I filled it through the shifter. (And cleaned my shift boot to boot).
I was pretty surprised that even though it was level, gear oil started dripping out of the fill hole when I pulled the plug, with that in mind it got me thinking, maybe it wasnt leaking from the seal after all, and actually leaking from the breather from being overfilled, it seemed oily up on top of there, too. I originally thought maybe it had stopped leaking because it just got too low and I was going to mess up my tranny if I kept driving like that. So I don't know what was going on.
Upon filling it, it took 2.7ish quarts like the manual said it would before it started dripping from the fill hole. But when I emptied my oil pan, it only drained about 2.2 quarts, so I'm not sure how it was dripping out the fill hole and only drained 2.2 quarts, but took 2.7 new quarts to fill. I did spill some, but definitely not a half quart.

Either way, it shifts fantastic and I don't have as much shudder anymore when I ease the clutch out like it did before. I wish I had done this sooner, it would have been a much more fun truck to drive.

 

If you replace the washer, it will be a full drain and fill. Take the fill plug off first before the drain. Just in case the fill plug causes you problem.

Went around a curve on a forest road and this happened. Got out and found it just like this.


Five of the six lug nuts were lying in a circle just a few feet behind the truck. One lug stud was broken and I assume its nut is still on it. I got lucky. Just put sliders on a few weeks ago and had a hi-lift with me. Was just a matter of jacking it up and slapping the wheel back on and hauling ass home. Was on my way to check trail cams but abandoned the mission after this happened. Didn't want to tempt fate anymore by pushing my luck.

I didn't make a single stop on the way home! I was worried it was way worse before I got out. Heard a clunk and then it wouldn't move whether in drive or reverse. I thought the transmission had gone out. It was a rough patch of road and the truck stopped when the wheel fell off because I have an open differential. It felt like I got snagged on a rock or log. I panicked for a second when it wouldn't move. I still panicked a little when I saw it cause I figured I was gonna be walking.

Weird thing was, all the lugs on the other rear wheel were loose too. Haven't had the wheels off since like Jan or Feb. Not sure if I shook the shit out of them (drove like 150 or 200 miles on unmaintained forest roads in the last two days) or someone sabotaged me. Odd situation all the way around.

 

That is a trip. Hope it wasn't a sabotage. Be safe out there.

 

Someone tried to steal your wheels

 

Now that the storm blew through (nice that I didn't lose power), I can really try and get some stuff done. Today it will be steering wheel install and hopefully replace my window weatherstrips on my doors, figure out the length I need to make the harness for my power mirrors, sound deaden both doors, install the power mirrors (not plugged in yet), and then maybe test fit my Buschwackers.
I'm not doing anything Saturday except working on my truck so don't ask

 

On a 2015? How often do you wheel? This scares me a little since I have a 2013.

 

I'm about to go the pump out route myself.... I have not hit this with a torch yet, and another suggested hitting it with the torque gun TIGHTENING first then Loosening....

But now i'm mostly just saving up to re-gear through ECGS and let them have the shell.....

 

I like to refer to the seen in Tommy Boy where he talks about taking a crap in the box and guaranteeing it.

Seriously though, if it helps you sleep at night. Then by all means go for it. I personally believe a warranty is a racket based on fear and I am probably 30-40k ahead because I have never bought one. I do most everything myself and what I do not feel up for, I know a guy or two.
