Not to mention the newest Gen 2 is now 5, almost 6 years old. Most have close to 100k on them when they do pop up used.

I can’t believe I’m living it! When the truck works it’s an amazing machine. I just don’t trust it. And Toyota can’t seem to fix it. I’ve had some close calls / near wrecks on very busy highways with this truck. Today at Costco I had to ditch it the wrong-way down an aisle in order to prevent blocking the whole intersection. A Costco employee saw me struggling to push it and helped me out.

OP, at this point i'd be talking to them about a buyback. Have them get you into another Tacoma for what you paid for it.

Agreed. Sounds like it should have already been replaced though.

He is going to have to get corporate involved at this point. The process of a Lemon will have to be started.
The dealer will most likely just string you along as long as you let them. I don't know if Toyota has arbitration when it comes to Lemon.

But reaching out to them in a sincere fashion will give you leverage should you have to escalate and get tougher in your actions later in the process.

Basically Toyota will either have to Lemon the Truck and make you whole (Refund or new Truck) or go to court. If they go to court and loose (which in this case I don't see how they would win) they run the risk of an even bigger financial hit than had they simply replaced the car or refunded your money.

@Chuck X1 This is unbelievable! I have had 3 other tacomas with No issues other than the secondary air intake valves going bad around 60k miles on my 2nd generation. I just bought a '20 offroad about a week and a half ago. Now I am getting anxiety about it. OP not sure if this matters or not, but where was your trucks assembly plant? Just interesting that some are having issues and others are having zero issues....

These are great trucks and I really hope they make it right for you!

I was told because my truck was down it would be given priority. It was at the dealer for 17 days.

OP, I was looking through the recall information WRT the low pressure fuel pump on the NHTSA website. Here's one of the documents that includes 2018/19 Tacomas:

    https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2020/RMISC-20V012-4705.pdf

From this, I snipped the affected fuel pump part number:

    upload_2020-8-5_12-56-52.jpg

I may be way off, but did they replace your pump with another that has exactly the same part number?
When I look at your invoice, it appears they did. Now, in my experience with other recalls (in particular, the Crank Position sensor), the part number was changed with respect to the improved part. I don't know if this is the case with the LPFP.

EDIT: OMG, have a look at paras 5 and 6 of the attached document for why these pumps fail. Fack!

I’m not sure what they replaced it with. Dealer called today and said a factory mechanic would come out and look at it. My fear
Is this truck will stall, back up traffic, and cause a serious injury To me or someone else. I’m afraid to drive it anymore.

So I need a favor from everyone on the forum. I posted a Google review of my experience on Toyota of Merrillville website and need you all to like it if you can. Just google “Toyota of Merrillville” and go under reviews. I need all the help I can get. I’m in for my fourth repair for low fuel pressure/stalling and out of hope. This vehicle can’t be relied upon. Thanks.

There is an active recall for the fuel pump affecting a lot of trucks, pending a "solution" from Toyota. Not sure if this is the same issue or not, but I think the dealers hands are a bit tied until Toyota releases the official TSB

is this an issue on 2020 trucks as well? or have they fixed it on new trucks on the lot? wondering if my brand new truck may have this issue down the line.

I was wondering the same thing..mine was built in june of this year so i am hoping and guessing this issue was resolved and NOT putting the same inferior pump in after they knew about this problem last year

You are correct; however, OP has been through the wringer with this dealership. For them to tell him it was normal in the beginning and clearing the codes and sending him on his way is unacceptable

I know this is a recall on the 2018/2019s, some fail at low mileage, some fail at high mileage, I wonder if the 2020s use the same part, I’d figure if they had a revised pump, they would have the part readily in stock to fix the issue/recall on the 2018/2019s. I would contact corporate, lemon law it, get another one. You should trust your truck/equipment that you paid almost 40k for and not have to be afraid to drive it. I hope it all works out and wish you the best. I would be furious at this point.

Thanks! Maybe the dealer will take this seriously and not just send me out to break down and block traffic again.

I might have to check that thread out. I think I had a Ranger roll off the assembly line right after yours
