yes my first statement was sarcasm as both of your previous responses were more of a "let's point out how stupid this person is rather than help them" type of message.

I apologize for not being knowledgeable about all things bikes, it's why I'm here.

non-sarcasm: thank you for providing this input, I will do my best to get it all set right.

for all the DIY bike mechanics here, what are your recommendations for a bike torque wrench? looking for one that will cover almost all of the torque specs on a bike.

Nice! I love the descent at Bobcat on Ginny! The climb up Powerline, not so much, haha. I ride Bobcat quite a bit just to get away from people. Never really see anybody on trail there.

I have yet to use it actually. Looks to be great quality. Hard to say on length. Cut a section of 5' string or something as a prototype for what you want to do.

Just got my first real trail bike! Really happy with it. 2020 Santa Cruz Hightower.

Still need to set sag, fix the shifting issues (not going into the smallest cog), and do a torque check. Learning one step at a time how to work on bikes.

take tension out of the shift cable using the barrel adjuster at the shifter. That will help the downshifting. (Adding tension helps with up shifting).

@stronghammer for your fork pressure, look up the suggested pressure according to weight. Best way to determine the pressure. Once you have that pressure, put the O ring all the way down the fork until it sits on top of the lowers, then sit on the bike carefully. Don’t drop your weight on the bike, just gently sit on it. Then get off the bike, again carefully so you don’t move the suspension any further. When you look at the fork, you should see the o ring moved up the Fork. This is sag. A good sag amount is 20-25% of the total fork travel, which you can determine with a tape measure. If the sag is Over that percentage, take some air out of the fork and try again. If the percentage is too low, add some air and try again. Once you have sag, you can set your rebound, which it sounds like you have figured out based on your other posts. Once sag and rebound are set, you can play with your compression knobs more efficiently.

91 PSI is what I came up with on that fork for him at 225# @stronghammer

I'll surmise that my Schwinn Predator is at least as bad to set up the brakes on.

@stronghammer thats your starting point! It’s not the absolute answer, you still want that sag to be 20-25% to start off with.

An update on my Bronson with the shock damage.

I made an appointment for a fork service last month, and brought it in Monday. I pointed out the damage and the shop guys looked completely perplexed by it. They said they would do the fork service and try to figure out what was causing the damage. They said they’ve never seen anything like it. That was Monday, they still haven’t called me back about my bike being ready.

That’s about what I was at, 95ish I think. I’ll adjust it and get it precise when my shock pump comes in tomorrow. Not riding again till Friday.

ALMOST went with a 2020 HT but balled out some and went with a 2020 stumpy. I hear the HT crushes all around the mountain :headbang:
