Warn Semi Hidden winch bumper (New for 3rd gen Tacoma)

Bull bar is in direct path of TSS sensor on my TRD Pro grill. TSS sensor displays constant error and is non-operational. Very disappointed that Warn did not provide warning of this issue. Only discovered this was a problem after bumper was installed and at a great deal of expense.

 

That sucks but this thread has had a lot of discussion about that issue. It works with the TRD Sport grille perfectly as the sensor is higher behind Toyota logo emblem. Some guys discussed cutting the bar off with Pro grille so they could still use at a winch mount.

 

I call warn about twice a year and ask when they are going to make a Pro friendly version. Keepin’ the pressure on them.

 

I had the same issue. Got mine from Amazon. They sent a replacement and it was bent to. still working this issue. I measured from the end to the center mointing point and the measurements were not the same.

 

Where did you get those lights in the grille from? Link?

 

Warn released this bumper with no hoop. I just ordered a Warn No-Tube Semi-Hidden Winch Kit (Bumper) from 4 Wheel Parts Store. Part No. 106252.

 

I cut mine off, actually think it looks better without it. And lost a few pounds in the process.

Glad they did this, it's a good product for the money.

 

Alright, here is my story...I have a TRD Pro 2018, ordered the bumper and a EVO 10-s from Amazon, knowing that there would be potential issues with the TSS and the front (original) skidplate. Got the parts very fast, measured and indeed the bull bar is EXACTLY in front of the sensor - so this answers the question..with the loop your TSS will NOT work if you have a PRO). I really don't like the looks or find too much utility for the loop, so I cut it off, ground the welding left overs and painted with Rust-oleum Automotive, great match!. cutting, grinding, painting and mounting took about 4h, with minimal help at the time of loading the new bumper. Install was not difficult, just a bit tedious, follow the instructions that come with the bumper, they are very decent. If you want, you can pre-install the winch before sliding the bumper in (remember to thread the rope through the fairlead before mounting), but it may be difficult to tighten the main bolts of the bumper with the winch in position. If you mount the winch after (which I did), then the skid plate is kind of in the way to mount the back screws. You DO NOT need to remove the plate, just loosen the front screws and it will come down about 1in, allowing you to position the screws. You may want to cut a couple of small windows on the bottom of the plastic bumper to be able to tighten those two screws. There is a bit of trimming as well to fit the side supports of the bumper, but nothing major. Wiring is very straight forward, I added a kill switch (

Blue Sea Systems Battery Switch ON/Off AFD, Red) mounted to the fuse lid. And, if at the end there is a bit of plastic 'bowing' at the bottom, just drill a couple of holes through the plastic into the metal of the bumper and add a couple of 1/4 machine screws to hold it together.

The final result: a Pro with semi-hidden bumper that holds a winch, doesn't look bulky and continues to have full TSS functionality. The winch clutch and remote outlet are accessible from above. The front suspension dropped less than 1/4" once done, not too bad.

@Grossomotto how are you accessing the clutch/remote port? I'm looking at relocating that winch from my TJ to my truck, and using this bumper to mount it. I'd rather not have to open the hood if at all possible, and I was wondering if it was possible to cut part of the grille lattice right above the bumper to be able to manipulate the clutch.

 

@BrianPVan any chance of some detail shots/info on how you mounted your control head there?

 

I've recently put in a ComeUp 9.5 seal2 winch and the remote is on top so I reach in with the hood open to connect it. I've got the winch on a manual breaker and have it off when not using, so I have to pop the hood anyhow to set the breaker.

 

Thanks. I've been considering running a battery cutoff as well, so it may be a moot point.

Yes, works fine on my 2018.

 

Yes, it works. When mounting, lower the skid about an inch so you can access the winch screws (if you're mounting a winch)

 

Where have you seen a Warn version with no roll hoop? I assume the TSS on my 2020 would not be happy about the hoop?
