Have a buddy that lives outside Maricopa? Those places don't require emissions, just register there

Agreed. That's way too much for that 4Runner. I paid $4700 for my 2003 V8 Limited 4Runner in Phoenix. Keep looking, I'd pass regardless of how nice it might be in pics.

yeah that seller is just trying to figure it's worth what a 1st gen Taco would be worth but it's just not the case.

A 4cyl 5spd T4R would be a fun trail toy build though, but only at 1/3 the selling price of what he's asking

You have room to have a little reliable beater car while you fix your exhaust valve? A little old civic or corolla can save you tons on gas and repairs/maintenance while you fix your truck. Then prolly even sell corolla/civic for more than you paid of you're a smart shopper

Sort of , I installed my lift but never worked on the engine past doing belts and oil changes. I have the v6. I was thinking about doing it and having some buddies help but was worried the head would be cracked cause the guy from the shop said it was a common thing.

This isn't a bad idea either

What were ur symptoms out of curiosity? Ive got a rough idle start intermittently for the first 15 sec, and a high rpm missfire above 4k rpms

Yeah absolutely, the guy was up front about bad valve leading to hairline cracks in head.
If you catch it early enough the head will be fine. Not a bad idea to have a verified good head and valves ready to slap on it when you pull the head. If you spend the time to watch timmah or some other well made in depth DIY video and have a good idea of what you're getting into, I'd think it's realistic for a first timer with decent mech ability to be able to pull and install a ready to go head in a weekend. Friday night start tear down and cleaning, Saturday pull head and install new head and then Sunday buttoning it up. :D
And then if you have extra hands on hand to help, even better hombre

I'm uh, pretty sure yours is what you don't want it to be. Have the valves ever been adjusted? Toyota says every 50k for 2/3RZ or they will eventually crack the head

This reminds me of when a friend showed me this song at his house and I was like 10 I think. And I had huge crush on his older sister and imagined she'd run away into the night with me and then when we tumbled to the ground she'd say: I think we're alone now:D

Ive only driven the truck for 30k miles since i bought from the dealer. No clue if done before but assuming if he had maintained by the dealer. Id rather the HG at this point over a burnt valve

This shit would be a cakewalk compared to a burnt valve. Im so sorry to the guy who found that in here

Just buy the top end gasket kit from Toyota. It’s fairly priced and comes with everything you need

No clue if its the HG yet, i swapped injector 1 and 3 and cleaned it after pulling too. Well see if it continues to missfire, and where the code pops for

I bought a whole new head casting and had a head built for my truck. The gaskets rarely go bad, but the heads fail often

I had a cracked head on my 3rz from the 4R, I bought a complete pre-assembled Chinesium head from APRauto.com (based outta CO) it was awhile ago but I think it was just under 600 to my door. I got a headgasket and valve cover gasket (plus spark plug seals for the valve cover) to go with it. I had never done anything that extensive work wise on a vehicle before.

Total job wasn't that bad. Took me about 3 days to put everything back together after getting the block back from the machine shop..... i probably could've reassembled it faster if I didn't wait 6 months to do the job:anonymous:

Did you go OEM head casting and reuse the drive train parts for it? The 3rz i pulled from the truck when I dropped my 4R motor in is just sitting on a pallet waiting for me to do something with it... I'd like to do an OEM rebuild on it but that'll have to wait till I have a garage to my name lol
