Switching gear shift in S mode

Thank you, I really appraicte the input, it makes sense after you said that. Splitbolt found the colored diagram which makes it some much easier to read. Is it normal for the service diagrams to reflect a switch in the opposite direction? From the diagram it looks like the connector should be facing you when you count the spots.

The diagram of the plug with 3 points labeled for testing is the switch connector (female). The last picture of the male plug is correct and matches the colored diagram. In addition, the troubleshooting table indicates low resistance if the shifter is moved to the + or - position in reference to the common point of ground, pin 2 black/white.

Swaping Red (1) and Green (3) will swap up (+) and down (-)

 

I'm not an automotive wiring connector expert, but I do play one on TV when I do mods like doing the fog light mod and keyless entry mod on my SR.
The way they show the connector in that diagram seems odd, typically what I've seen is that the female connectors are wired 1- x from left to right facing the connectors. the male pin connectors on the component are of course reverse. if you have a good light, usually you can see the starting number on the connector itself, very small. For double row female connectors (which have the release tab for the ones I've worked with), the numbering starts on the top row (facing the connector) and goes left to right, then continues on the bottom row. This diagram for T23 is also in the wiring diagrams appears correctly numbered when facing the female connector side (not the wire side), note the release tab is at top:


The above drawing numbering facing the connector agrees with your third photo numbering (viewed wire side) so you're good to go.

Yes, those threads are entertaining as well for the many misconceptions, haha. But if you read through enough of them, you get an understanding of how it works. Me of course, I just played with it myself to see how it works (I like it, but use it only occasionally). If I want to have fun though, I put it in official "Super Sport S mode" and race from 1-4

Glad that worked out for you! I’m old school, the cars I had with the automatic shift knob on the center console always pushed the knob up to go to higher gears 1-2-3 etc, so the way my Taco is seems normal to me.

That's correct with the Toyota OEM logic. In this mode, you *can* force a downshift sometimes. But, with OVTune and Gearlock, it would function like a normal automatic-manual shifter.

 

Thank you for this thread! One of the first things I noticed was the backwards S mode shifting. I have a little sports car and a shifter Kart which down shift with a push. I dont want to go mucking it all up with one car that is the opposite. I did that with a motorcycle once. GP shift is great... on a track... and only if all your bikes are the same way.

I can confirm that swapping the red and green wires at the connector works for the 2023 Trd off-road.
