Great video and review. I have always used OEM filters on my vehicles and motorcycles.

 

Now where does this so called filter go? Jkg...But i do like the line x on the orange paint of the fram, haha. I guess I've been using the wrong filter for the past 115,000 miles...

 

Cool, a Thai made filter for a Japanese truck made in CA. TDM parts FTW! The extra media speaks for itself.

 

Nice review!! I'm glad I have never used Fram on my truck, just the toyota one and the K&N most recently since Advanced Autoparts had a deal on Valvoline synthetic oil that included the K&N..looking forward for your review on the K&N.

Not a damn thing wrong with Fram filters..... I've used them before and I'd use them again.

Seems everyone on the internet thinks they're an engineer and thinks they know exactly what a filter should or shouldn't be. Fram is a huge company and they obviously meet whatever government requirements for filtering/design. If FRAM filters were so bad - why are they still in business? Their filters are perfectly fine and far better to use than not changing your filter at all.

The internet is full of FRAM bashers who know nothing about the filters materials nor do they know anything about the company, the engineering, what items are actually made of.... All they (bashers) know, is they take the filter apart and its not what THEY think it should look like. Good for you...if that's your judgment call, then so be it. Don't try to convince everyone else that you're RIGHT.
Do you have experience using FRAM filters? Have you had any problems?

The filters may be inexpensive, but they're built well enough for a standard oil change interval. That's all you need. There are plenty of people who use fram and have used fram and haven't had any issues.

So, what's the real reason this information is here?

 

I went to the dealership on the way to work today, and their chart (05-11) indicates the use of the 90915 YZZG1 for my 2010 2TR-FE 2.7L engine. WTF? I thought the

$55 90915-YZZD3 Oil Filter 1 Case (QTY 10)

90915-YZZD3 fit both the 4.0 and the 2.7!! The G1 is shorter than the D3. I'd been using Mobil 1 or Pure One filters before...after seeing this thread, thought I'd try a Toyota filter?
Anyone got any ideas?

 

I think that he was trying to show the difference between some of the products out there. I'm not an engineer, but the success of a company does not necessarily have much to do with the quality of their product. Fram spends millions each year to convince all of us that their product is the best. Most people take what they hear or see on the radio, television or internet as truth, irregardless of fact. I think that Chris has shown that there is a difference between these filters in design, quality and price. Take it for what it is, information. I think that you may be overreacting just a smidge.

 

I hadn't originally 'over-reacted' until after I made two posts that said, "Not another one of these posts" - they got deleted by the OP. Sorry Chris, but you were way out of line with your moderator powers there. Not a damn thing wrong with what I said and you deleted them both.

So now, I am over-reacting because I have a reason to.

where can I get an OTC filter from Yota for $3.99? I think mine are $5 and change out the door after tax and a smile from the cute counter girl.

 

Blah blah blah, Janster I swear every post I read by you, you rant. I don't think Chris ever claimed he was an engineer. He showed us what each filter looked like, period. You can now see what is inside each filter. If you like Fram then fine use it. I like using the Toyota filters and always have. But no reason to go off about it, and I see no reason for you to come into threads and say not another one of these or to use the search! Get over it.

Chris when you get some of those filters, there are two that fit our trucks. The M1-201 is the shorter version (about same size as fram), and the M1-209 is the taller version (about the same as stock toyota). I've always used the bigger one figuring they would filter more.

 

If you don't really care what I think, then why delete my original posts? Let the debating begin as it normally does. I said nothing for or againest your post. But simply...."Not another one of these posts". Deleting my posts was like saying... "We're not allowed to debate the truth or validity of this thread" - You're not giving anyone a chance to even speak unless they're praising you.

I've seen similar statements in other threads... threads about lifts, tires, wheels, oil changes intervals, yadda yadda yadda. Those aren't getting deleted....? What's the difference?

And now you're saying.... "If you run with a FRAM filter, you don't care about your vehicle" - nice touch. Thankyou for disrespecting all of our readers who use Fram, used Fram in past, and like Fram.

 

I don't know about the deleted posts, well, I know it happened, but I'm not in charge so it's not my call.

As far as there being a ton of these threads, I don't recall too many filter comparison threads where they were torn apart, but I haven't searched too much either.

 

I used to work in the lab for the company that made all the element paper for Fram filters, I can tell you that the paper is top notch and the quality control was very good. It doesn't matter how tall the filter is, different papers have different flow qualities. I'm guessing that Fram can reach the same needed CFM (cubic feet per minute) using a more densely woven paper than what the maker of the Toyota filter uses. This is only a guess of mine though, I haven't worked in that industry for some years now.
