BPV Bracket

Anyone install this bpv bracket on there truck ?
Does it actually help ?

 

It brings the brake proportioning valve to a point where it can function like it should...when you lift the rear but leave that in the stock location, it doesn't function as well as it should and can have a negative effect on your rear braking ability. Nothing major but doing this mod helps a bit.

Someone can probably explain it better than me but that's the gist of it....I ordered mine from Wheelers but it didn't fit my 04 very well, make sure the one you buy is for the right year/model of your 1st gen. I think some BPV's are mounted slightly different than others.

BAMF should have one too, I've seen that one on here a bunch of times.

 

you could just make one... all you need is a piece of the flat square aluminum and drill a couple of holes and get another bolt/nut/washer.

If you have a drill and a hacksaw, you can made your own for like $5.

 

I said I was gonna paint mine years ago but... still haven't gotten around to it. I was able to make mine to the exact amount of lift I got.

 

Is this trying to re-align the BPV with something?
I'm trying to understand how much to raise it.

the higher the arm, the more braking force is allowed to the rear wheels. it's supposed to "sense" when there is a load so that more braking can come from the rear.

so when you lift the truck, the arm actually goes lower, making it seem like there is no load at all in the bed or on the rear and will never correctly proportion the braking at the rear wheels.

I honestly noticed only a slight improvement when I put the bracket on. the Tacoma in general doesn't have a lot coming from the rear brakes. hence why you see a lot still have original pads on the rear (I'm at 175k and still plenty of pad life left)

 

In theory make the bracket the length of your lift .
Then I have never had one of these valves that seemed to work after 15 plus years of Winter Chemicals

 

I was at least able to bleed all my brakes last year, so thankfully there is still fluid flowing, however the LSPV looks like a crusty ball at this point. dreading if I ever need to replace

 

The last one I messed with I removed ran the new Brake line to the rear blocked the two ports at the front .

Have the manual valve floating around just never installed it 3 or 4 years now.

I never had these Bias valves learning to drive you just knew if your in empty a pick up the rear brakes locked up you slid through intersections till you learned .

I've always wondered, why use the bracket? I just got a longer eye bolt.

 

Reviving this here topic. I lifted my 1st gen only 1.5" with an extra .25-ish with new tire treads. Does a 1.75" lift make that much of a difference? I ask because I am trying to track down a "hard brake" issue that just started a month ago. I lifted the truck at the beginning of the summer and put a good 4K+ miles on it before having the brake issue. Like, I drove an 1800 mile loop down and up the west coast hauling a trailer full with no braking issues.... until a month ago.

The Booster Check Valve clears. I still need to bleed my lines. I digress, at what height does the extra length on the BPV really take effect? We talking 2" - 3"?
