sounds like it might be braken. perhaps look at getting the tsb done

although being that you have a 16, your warranty is probably out of date. might be worth reaching out to toyota corp to see if they might help. if not, out of pocket

No recalls from what I've seen but if you have warranty you could take it in. If not I think some people take it off and apply new seal

    It's a tsb, technically.
But if you have a mold issue. Call the toyota care number and get yourself a dealer appointment pronto.

With you having a 2016 out of warranty you should call Toyota and see if they will cover part or all of the expense since it's a known issue, worst case they will say no.

Recalls are only based off safety issues. Unfortunately they don’t consider water leaks a safety issue. Even if it causes mold with can cause/effect health issues.

Furthermore, the 3rd brake light is only covered under the base warranty (3yr/36k) so unless you bought some type of extended warranty coverage, you’re going to be stuck paying out of pocket to replace it. Normally a 3rd brake light replacement on a pick up truck takes 2 minutes to replace. However some awesome engineer at Toyota came up with a design that mounts from inside the cab. So to change it isn’t an easy task and requires to drop the headliner. You might be able to finagle it only partially dropping it but also increase the risk of creasing the headliner. Ive seen ghetto repairs where people caulk it from the outside. Or run some clear packaging tape over the light to seal it off.

Don’t delay on getting it repaired. I remember seeing once thread where a guy had some pretty bad mold in his from the light leaking. His son was also getting sick. It’s not worth risking your health.

I would probably look into an insurance claim. Mold is a huge problem and something that just doesn’t go away. We pay insurance for a reason. They should cover the light along with the damage if you have full coverage.

Had the same issue. Was 12,000 miles past the warranty and dealer wouldn't cover it. Called toyota, talked to someone but never heard back. Got pissed off and just took care of it. Took it to a local shop and they patched it up for about $120 bucks.

I think there was an offical TSB about it, but instead of emailing or letting people know about it, Toyota decided to just let people find out on their own so people like me would get screwed with the bill. They used some cheap sealant. Phuckers.

Clear Silicone sealant around and inside the gaps I did mine preemptively. Don’t want to take a chance .

Your title says it all, it's broken. By the way, it's "brake" light, not "break" light.

I guess in this case the brake light does become a break light when it starts leaking......
