My Benchmade bug out from Blade HQ randomly showed up today. Honestly didn’t expect it for weeks with Covid and hadn’t been tracking it. But I have a question. This is my first bug out. But do you think it’s possible I got a fake? I don’t think blade hq would send out a fake but it looked like the box had been opened before.

What’s leading me to think fake is the butterfly. My last Benchmade you could easily read Benchmade in the logo this one the first E is messed up and in a weird spot making me wonder.

Sorry man, it looks fake to me too. The thumbstud looks too tall and doesn’t have enough “steps” on it so the top of it around the torx hole is thicker. I also haven’t seen any bugout with a blue thumbstud and black scales that isn't the gold class without a hardware or scale swap.

Probably someone bought a fake and a real bugout, then sent the fake back to BHQ and they didn't check closely when they got it back.

Here is what the thumbstud looks like on mine:

Yeah I’m gonna email them. Do you care if I borrow that pic to show them the difference? I’m not upset by any means (as long as they take care of it) just hate that some pos did that. I don’t think they would have sent back the fake “by accident”

Go ahead. There are also a bunch of photos online that would support your case too.

Edit: Found this hi-res pic that also shows the "Benchmade" lettering sitting just under the flats of the blade. The lettering on yours isn't that close.

I don’t think you will have much of a problem getting a replacement. Reputable stores won’t even ask for so much proof. If you aren’t satisfied they will likely send a replacement without asking too many questions. Probably how you ended up with a fake to begin with.

@Newlife Someone just happened to post a pic of their bugout clone on Reddit tonight. Looks familiar...

Shot them an email with the pics to their customer service email. I don’t think they’ll give me much of a problem either but just wanted to be prepared. It’s the first issue I’ve ever had ordering with them and usually they say to give them 24 hours but last time I emailed them about a micro tech the sales team emailed me right back in about an hour. I just still couldn’t bring myself to spend 500+ on an otf lol.

I have a question for you guys about my grandfathers knife that I inherited a few years ago. There is no one left to tell me anything about it. I know my grandfather was a deeply religious man who worked for Wheeling Pittsburgh steel until he retired in the 1960s. He never drove and work was 30 miles away so he stayed in flop houses during the week and came home on the weekends.
The knife has his picture embedded in the handle and the sheath is a 1947 newspaper with a string tied around it. Is this knife a kit of some sort or is it possible that he made this in a machine shop at the mill? Its so nicely done and obviously detailed. I picture him doing something like this on his own time at the mill because he didn't drink and just had a place to bunk during the week. He was also a artist. I would be interested in what you guys think about it. I wont part with it one way or another. The other knife is a buck knife 110V that belonged to my dad. I think it was from around 1970.knife 005.jpg knife 002.jpg

The ZT is a lot smaller than I thought it would be but you're right, much nicer in hand than I thought it would be.

So I am moving to the top of a mtn ridge in NC. Aka lots more choppin’ will be going down. Keep an eye out for a brutha would ya!
I still carry that CPK edc3 with me everyday bro. Easily the most comfortable knife I have owned and the steel is no joke.
