A header will certainly make a difference. My china header really helped the engine breathe. I swapped out a good exhaust manifold for the header and was surprised by the gain. There is also a high flow cat and a magnaflow.

First make sure everything else is good, clean the MAF, change the plugs, air filter, fuel filter. Make sure all the hoses are good.

Then a header and open the airbox a little. My truck has something similar to the deck plate mod.

My exhaust manifold cracked 2 weeks ago, couldnt find one local, so we welded the crack, so far so good, but if it cracks again ill just buy one online, no mods will make the 2.7 quicker itll be all in your head, only mod would be a supercharger and at the end of the day its a truck not a sports car, know your limits

My 02 DC Pre Runner with a 3RZ 4cyl has a TRD supercharger , Doug's headers Tri Y header and K&N CAI . With these mods I can easily climb the 4k ft Cajon pass

@US Marine how long have you had the supercharger? I'm going to be installing mine soon and curious your input on it. Also did you do any fuel mods?

I have a 95 2.7 5 speed,32 10/50x15bfg tires and 4:88 gears, this 2.7 engine loves that gear ratio , I hardly ever used 5th gear previously now I use it on freeway and its about 2000 rpm at 70 , works great , also added thourly headers and a performance chip ,I didn't change the intake just added a K and n air filter in the stock housing works great and docent get as dirty as these open air filters this set up works great for me

As @campoman45 mentioned- think about gearing. It'll make a huge difference with highway driving. Yes... it helped on extremely steep trails that my prerunner just physically couldn't turn the wheels from a dead stop, but the biggest difference was having cruising and passing power on the highway when I re-geared. Your fuel economy will go down a bit though.

If your rig is stock wheel size and planning to stay stock, look into 4.30 gears if you don't have them already as you may have something around 4.10s. Check you VIN plate and see what you have. If you have 4.30s already (sometimes a factory option) you may want to look into 4.88 aftermarket gearing.

with the mods ive done im getting around 20 mpg, the tire size and gear ratio of 4:88 seem to work very well together
