Yeah, I don't buy anything significant from big box stores, they rarely get the same quality product as a specialized retailer. There is a Cummins generator shop 5 minutes from where I work that comes up as a home backup system dealer/installer/service. I'm going to start there. I will look to see if Briggs has an installer in my area.

I'm kind of partial to Cummins from what I've seen in heavy industry. My Dad worked at a seismic lab for a number of years that had contracts to seismic test a magnitude of assemblies for dozens of industries, they had a few contracts to test Cummins generators. I have videos of those generators starting up under 75% electrical load (up to 750kW units) from standby during what would be scaled to seismic event equivalent to 4.0 on the Richter scale. The doors don't even open on the enclosure.

What the heck is it with the shortage of industrial maintenance technicians? We have a heckuva time finding people when we're actually hiring. Although it might be due to being only 3rd or 2nd shift positions. I myself am looking for daylights, but I'll keep doing the 3rd thing to build my resume while looking for the right place...

There aren't any. We no longer touch anyone who graduates from places like triangle tech etc until they've got 5 years under their belt. We're looking for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift. We have 8 open positions for mechanics and electricians and one for 2nd shift IT.

Our plant has something like 40 open jobs right now.

Good morning all! Have the day off and heading for Carlisle soon. Might find some goodies, might not. Beats being at work either way. Neighborhood yard sale tomorrow, hope to get rid of some stuff too.

figure out your ultimate end goal/dream and go for it....I personally wasted time and money on more budget friendly parts, just to do it all over again....and every time I purchase what I actually wanted I always say “why didn’t I do this earlier”

ignore the hole in your wallet

This right here, buy once cry once, getting what you truly wanted in the first place is way more satisfying then compromising for something that isn't what you really wanted. :spending:

Wow, I was expecting to come in here and see pictures of torn up homes and towns, and hear tales of woe about flooded properties and no electricity. Pretty lucky bunch! I'm in Berks County and we got biblical amounts of rain. Worst flooding folks have seen since Agnes in 1972. Partly that was because we had had a big storm Saturday night that dumped as much as 7" on the area, so the water table was high. Winds weren't hurricane force but strong enough to topple a lot of trees that had soft ground under them. Power out for 60,000+ people. We were on generator for a little over 2 days. I was expecting it to be longer. The power crews are doing a bang up job.

No one really wants to do any work they want to be paid to really show up a few days a week spend the time on there phone leave early and go home .

The people my age are packing it in no one to replace them.

The majority of new hires can`t read forget fractions troubleshoot not a clue. This I hear from most of the maintenance people I deal with.

    Good luck finding people .

My Boss is worried I do so much no one really knows about for customer service to keep people happy and make my job easier it would take me a year to get them trained .
