I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma v6 automatic transmission Pre-runner. I bought a camper weighing 3,900lbs. The dealer said my tow capacity is 3,500 without a tow package. I am under the impression that an owner before me installed a tow package because of the hitch attachment with wiring in the back. I am not too experienced with pulling my own trailers so I’m not sure. I have been looking into buying a sway bar, a brake controller and a transmission cooler. Does anyone have any advice they can give me? The lady at the dealer said my transmission could not get a cooler... I don’t believe that but who knows, maybe I’m wrong.

Open the hood and see if you have these 2 hoses. If you do, then you have the factory installed tow package.

If you have those, then you will also have this transmission cooler.

Regardless, 3900 lbs is on the upper end of safe tow weight for a Taco. If you don’t have much experience towing trailers, that kind of weight could put you and other people on the road in a dangerous situation.

    not sure about Ur concern

most would have asked before purchase what reasonable limits might be

after U load the camper.......................load Ur tacoma ( passengers..... cooler etc )
    easily another approx 1000lbs
U could turn out Ur driveway 10k or more

U will be well above the limits expressed to U

towing to the nearest campground a couple times a year is not that stressful
as opposed to circumnavigating the lower 48

be certain all Ur fluids are current & topped off
be certain all bearings are up to snuff ( U will see others with burnt axled bearings trailer or truck )

Ur stopping distances will be elongated ( total weight easily 2x of truck alone )
    drive with patience/tolerance

    good luck
