As Ive been lurking for s dsy or two..thought Id jump in and register and ask a few questions about an upgrade on my 10 Double Cab

I have a 2010 Double Cab with the standard unit but the six disc changer, I had to have the dealer install the Toyota accessory XM unit...well the whole recieve is weaker than well water...it sucks bad. Id like to know a few things from the fella's who have done more than I

Other than size and display is theer a huge difference in a double DIN and a single unit?

When I upgrade recievers Ill add a Sirius unit..can I utilize the color matched sat antenna that exists on the truck already?

Im quite sure Ill come up wih more questions, but want to thank everyone in advance for answering these to the best of their ability.

    I too have a '10 DC.

Double vs. Single DIN...well, like you said: you get a larger faceplate which usually affords better button spacing and sometimes a larger display but these things are not to be discounted too quickly as they can make working with the unit while driving a whole lot easier.

You may find double din's with multi-disc loaders but, with iPod being the medium of choice these days, fewer of these are on the market anymore.

As for power and sound quality...no difference. Double din's aren't being utilized to stuff twice the amp power in there.

Probably the most significant difference between the two is that your choices of models is more limited if you insist on going Double. That can, however, be a blessing as it can take considerable time trying to sift thru the mass of single-din units out there.

As for the antenna...it is not a 'made by toyota' antenna and will probably work with any Sirius or XM unit you buy.

On the Sat antenna, search around a bit more, I recall that there was an adapter talked about that allows the stock Sat antenna to plug into a new HU. Was expensive though,,, I think.

Double DIN vs. single DIN, depends on what you plan to use it for. If you do video or nav, double should be a requirement. If only radio, CD, sat, mp3, then you can definitely get by with single, double will just add to usability.
