I'm not sure if it's all dealerships but I went to Apple Valley in Martinsburg, where they did the frame inspection a month before the actual coating application. They should be able to let you know if your sliders will need to be removed during the inspection phase.

I did this mod a few weeks back for primarily the same reasons you mention. I don't trailer our boat all that often so I haven't had too much of a chance to play with it using the trailer. I do have a pretty steep driveway that I back up everyday though and that's a little tough on the clutch as well. I have a sharp turn at both the bottom of the driveway and the top. The 2LO works like a champ for backing up my driveway.

The sequence to turn 2LO on and off takes a little getting used to and takes a little time, but that wouldn't matter for towing - its just a bit extra for quickly zipping up the driveway. Well... at least its more than just dropping it into reverse. I'm getting better at it though. Another user here printed up card that you can stick in the visor with the steps to engage and disengage the 2LO. It's not difficult, but it's not exactly intuitive either. If you do the steps in the wrong order, you can get an error light and have to reset the switches, turn off the truck, and restart. Not really an issue and it's only happened to me once when I forgot a step going directly from "4HI" to "2HI" without toggling the 2LO switch.

I'm actually picking up a 6x12 U-Haul trailer to move my Son down to VA Tech in an hour or so. I'll need to back it up our steep driveway with my M/T this afternoon. That will be the first real test of how well the mod works. The trailer won't be loaded or as heavy as a boat, but it will be a good test. I'll let you know how it goes.

 

Been a few years but I'll be around. Did a couple on the 4.0 back when I wrenched for Toyota.
