I agree, but I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place here?

it's something I obviously don't know about until the windows are in. the crew got pissy with me because "I didn't let them finish their job". so they explained to me why it is the way it is, and then tell me to let them finish and I'll be happy with how it looks. since I don't really have the option of waiting for taller windows with holes in my house for weeks, I'm letting them finish.

their Project Manger is supposed to come out next week to me and look it over, partially because of the 3 windows that were 100% wrong sized, but he said we can discuss anything I'm not happy with.

    recommendations? options?

yeah I get that, but I mean to what extent should I be picky?

is this just "how the windows should sit"? or do I make them bring back taller windows in a few months?

I had all my windows replaced earlier this year and none of them had gaps. If it were me, I wouldn’t pay until it’s right with new windows that are the correct size, not generic with 2” of trim.

Estimator/Sales guy should know his biz. After all you’re payin’ for that too. All I got to say is there’s a 100 ways to install somethin’ but only 1 right way. You’ll have to live with it so the decision is only yours friend.

I basically see it as two options. Tell me if there are more.

Let them finish today, so we have "complete" windows in the house. Then when Mr. PM comes next week.

    1. Tell him we want taller windows, installed properly, and we wait for those to come in AND we get a discount because they F'd up.

    or

    2. We tell him we are willing to accept these windows and the improper sizing, but we want a discount on our current price larger than what we'd want for getting proper sized windows.

    I wouldn’t even consider option 2.

the only reason I say it's an option is because if it "LOOKS" good, even if it's not perfect....it's still better than the old aluminum that we had.

we are selling this house, only bought it to remodel and sell.

the windows would in fact be functional, properly sealed, etc....just have more trim/foam/etc than "perfect".

so if we got enough money off the total price, then maybe it would be worth it to just leave it.

    examples:

it's 7 windows total in the "siding area". so only 7 that I assume we would be unhappy with overall.

those 7 per the quote, total to be $3,850 of the total cost. that's labor and all.

so if we say "we'll live with them, but want 50% off those windows specifically" we save $1,925.

or we could say, we want the taller windows, but you F'd up so give us a discount of like 10%. We'd save $385.

I’d be unhappy with window fitment like that
But then I’d never trust/hire a giant company like window world to do work for which I cared about the quality.
They probably undersize the windows to get them to fit easier.
For what it’s worth your wall assembly will have a higher r value than it would with correctly sized windows lol assuming they foam that gap.

Piece at the top is a C Chanel right?
Called a jamb extension, and that is exactly what it’s for. With that said, I’ve pretty much never used that piece. I’m a small family business and only put replacement windows in when absolutely necessary (block/stone/brick).
There is 1,000 ways to finish off that window, unfortunately a larger company will pick the easy/cheap option

    outside pic would be nice

I'm assuming with 17 windows you're several thousand dollars into this. I'd be raising hell. The dipshit that measured them should be given his last paycheck with a boot in the ass. Fucking hacks.

    They do foam the gap.

and I agree I probably won’t use a company like window world in my forever home but this was a remodel home for me. Needed to stay budget and nobody could beat window worlds price. Even had folks say they won’t even price it to me because of that

No, this is not right at all. There are typically shims at the openings to get it set level. Gaps are filled with insulation, and then flashing, trim and sealant to keep water and insects out.

Exterior material shouldn't matter, because the window is framed to your wall studs. Looks like wrong size window to me.

So glad when I did my windows I ended up getting full tear outs. Ended up only being a few grand more then then I got quoted for replacements and I know they were done right, fit right and look better then replacements. Plus sealed a lot better so no more drafts.

I guess in your situation where you bought the house to sell it doesn’t really matter. But when you buy a house to actually live in, spend the extra money and have it done the right way.

Do you mean the window frame itself is c channel? Yes the surrounding that they installed is c channel all around with a foam insert. Then with the gap at the top they are putting this vinyl trim on the inside, spray foam all behind it, then exterior trim.

they haven’t finished an outside section yet for me to photo.

Yes total cost of 17 is 7900$.

I believe they are doing the flashing trim sealant and insulation. I think the “finishing” is correct, I just think that gap is much larger than it should have been.

That's $465 a window installed. That's stupid cheap. You get what you pay for.

I get you want to flip it. Just pay them and move on at that price.
