Excellent photos. What camera & lens?

 

Glamping to me means you and your family can shit in your vehicle. If you have to deuce outside, that's camping.

I dont know bud.... Take a shit in my lug-a-loo located in the temp. pop-up room.... stocked with Charmin-Ulta and wetwipes.... while staring out and down the south rim of the Grand Canyon and tell me you arent glampin ....

In the dark ages of film I learned the great art of patients. Composing and figuring out starting points for exposure control and then waiting until the light was exactly what you wanted. Then take your shot and change settings take a shot, etc. No instant indication of success, and we didn't have the ease of photoshop. I still shoot that way. And while I'm doing that I'll usually see some guy just taking shot after shot in some pre-programmed mode hoping to get a fairly decent image he can then spend hours editing. But even the old way you still relied on taking enough photos to get what you want. It's just way cheaper and faster today.

 

I think that's a great way to describe it. As much as I joke off the cuff about just taking tons of photos, the reality is that I'm always trying to learn and get better at composition. Over the years I've gotten better, but can of course learn much more than I currently know.

Rarely do I find a place and stay there for a photo (hours later). I have friends who do this, and they come up with some amazing shots. For me, it's more about capturing the moment I am at a place - whether it's the best time for a photo or not. Because for me, being there, being present, and enjoying myself is the most important bit.

Development on the computer has definitely made costs more approachable for the masses. That is a positive in my mind.

 

There is no right or wrong way, just your way. I enjoy sitting and watching light and shadows change. I may take photos under various conditions. And still I'm happy if I get that one that makes it all worthwhile.

 

I did a little exploring today. I found an abandoned Pick up in the middle of nowhere.

 

Dragonflies are interesting creatures. Kind of the super-predators of the insect world. One time in SoCal we were camping and a swarm of flying ants erupted out of the ground near our campsite.

Within minutes there was about 50 dragonflies congregated doing dive raids into the swarm for a meal. After the swarm dispersed we looked to see if there was any dead dragonflies, not a one.

Too bad they don't fly at night for mosquito mitigation.

 

Eh, the 'GL' in GLamping is for glamor. You can't be glamorous with a lugaloo.

 

...As we approached the next set of mountains, some old ranching equipment caught our eye - could this be the overlanding and insta-expedition trailer we'd always wanted?...

A few weeks back...

 

I’m always interested to specifically see how people organize their vehicle to live out of relatively long term.

The wife and I did 30 days and 6,500 miles straight this Summer.

12 States, 16 State Line Crossings, 12 National Parks, almost all for free on BLM Land, out of the back of our 99 Runner. Just left the Exped on the floor between the wheel wells, threw clothes and gear in our bags in the rear floorboards, and only had to move the kitchen from front to back when going from driving to sleeping modes and back. Easy peasy!


How do y’all organize your vehicles for long range travel? We find the key is to have as much in place as possible and not have to set up and tear down anything, ever. Also, to pack as light as humanly possible ha.

You don’t need 100grand to have a good month or twenty long trip!
