Slab down today. Getting set to backfill and all that next week maybe? Two weeks tops. Will probably install all the septic then since contractor doesn’t need to drive on backside of the house at this point.



if you look middle left closely there are two horse shoes from my mil and fil first horses together. House is for mil after fil passed last year, so we will be filling it with touches like that.

have their initials with a heart in the cement on one wall as well.

Getting there ! Waiting on power company still . Septic is done and approved.

 

Lost five trees in my yard, power has been out since 4pm yesterday, my town is a freaking disaster area, and then a tree hit my house at 7pm last night. Everyone is ok. We are running off of a generator but I don't see getting power back at least until tomorrow maybe Saturday. I am trying to look on the bright side.....maybe I can get a new roof out of it.

We had some crazy winds here. Quite a few limbs down, lots of power out throughout the county. Did some yard clean up this morning/afternoon. We pretty much came out unscathed here. Whew....

 

Looks nice, are you guys finishing the basement? Or considering it down the line? I'm assuming that's why you are boxing off all the mechanicals? That is next step in our house, hopefully in sept-oct.

Hopefully the roof didn't leak! Glad that everyone is okay though.

We lost a tree and some branches, but nothing big. Lost power for maybe 3 hours, we've been meaning to get a generator and every storm is another reminder.

We invested in a 10000 watt portable (365lbs lol) generac after the tornado and October snow storm in 2011. We had a transfer switch put in and we really haven't used it until now. Thank God we have one. It had 2 hours of use before yesterday. Push button start and i run it once a month for five minutes just to keep the battery charged. I look at it now as one of the best investments I made. We don't have natural gas so we couldn't get an installed stand alone without going propane. 10 gallons of gas gets us about 16 hours of use with 2 refrigerators, a chest freezer, my boiler, water pump (well) and 3 rooms plus kitchen. We have water, air conditioning, heat and food.

 

We have a generac transfer switch, but would need to attach to our propane tanks. That portable one sounds like it could do everything and more that we would need!

I am going to research those a little more. We are prepped for one and want one, we just ran out of money at the end of the build and now with not being able to operate all year all projects and extra purchases are basically on hold.

 

Building code says utility room ,hence boxing in mechanicals .It’s on the foundation plan . Fire code Sheetrock and insulation in utility room . Most of these building codes are ridiculous.

 

Dang that’s terrible. Glad everyone is ok .

 

It's very hard for lower income families or people to build a house in the first place, add in the new code stuff and its an extra 20-30% in cost on an already stretched budget.

You have to make the house so tight you need to buy a machine to pull in air...

It's almost like someone lobbied hard so new products could get sold...

I'm ALL for being as safe and insulated as someone can afford, I think some of the new stuff is F'ing amazing. But I don't think we should have to buy it. Maybe it's disclosed to future buyers, or noted in an inspection. Otherwise if that guy wants to not insulate anything but his pipes and burn 50 cords of wood a year, well that's his choice and I hope he likes hard work
