After hours searching on-line and calling every dealer who advertised our new truck, we finally found it and got a deposit down on it. Unfortunately it’s 2656 miles away from us. Now we are looking into transportation options. We were totally willing to fly and drive other locations but a drive across country right now has no appeal. Especially since we will be driving it from Southern Cal. to Cabo.

I’ve looked on line and have been quoted a smidge less than $1600 for open transport. All the websites seem to be brokers though and I’m hesitant about booking with them.
I’ve also sent a request to our sales guy but haven’t heard yet. We are buying from a Toyota dealer.

Recommendations and things to look out for?

Time for a road trip. Fly out and drive home. It’ll be worth it.

I understand that you can't do a road trip (or that one is not feasible at this time). Of course, you know best so let's take that as a given. Depends on where the car is located, but here is an idea that might be worth considering. Search for classic car transportation companies. The reason I mention that is that they are known for taking good care of cars and there is a fair amount of activity going on with used / classic cars that a complete industry exists. Might be worth calling one or two of these folks and getting their thoughts as well as an estimate. I have seen some who move four or five cars at a time and that might end up saving you some money. Hope that helps and best of luck to you !

    Where is Cabo?

Not Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, right? 'Cause not sure if border crossings are even permitted w/o monitored quarantine.

JP Logistics is a vehicle transportation company out of Los Angeles. They mostly transport super/hyper cars because they ship them in these cool enclosed flatbed trailers. YouTubers like TheStradman use this company and they recommend it. I'm not sure what costs are like (probably a lot of $$) but check them out https://jplogistics.net/

I doubt they will ship over the border but idk

If you don't mind me asking for my own knowledge, how did they work and what about it was great? I'd appreciate your insight on what you did and how it worked.

I bought mine from a dealer in GA who arranged shipment with a guy based in Irvine. TM Trans Inc, I think it was Mike, in case you want to give him a call, first google search matches the number on my invoice. He may not be interested in crossing the border, but I bet he would know who to talk to. Reliable, safe, trustworthy, not overly expensive, just about what I suspect you're looking for.

I think 1600 sounds a bit high, I think you can get it done for under $1k unless the risks of driving through baja are significantly higher insurance-wise?

Just be aware you will have to export the vehicle from the US side of the border. Pretty sure Toyota will no longer honor the warranty at that point. I know if you try to buy a US Tacoma and bring it to Canada, they wont honor the warranty anymore.

Mexico tacos don’t come in long bed or TRD Offroad. If OP is a us citizen or resident then I guess they can just keep renewing a 6 month permit but as far as someone transporting it will be hard considering the hassle it will be to get it across and then not even be able to legalize it in mexico

    I have shipped dozens of motorcycles and a couple cars. You basically list the shipment;

Example would be, "I want my Tacoma shipped from Los Angeles, CA, to New York City, New York. " Where the words in Red can be exchanged for any number of circumstances.

Shippers will vary from retired dudes just looking to travel in their diesel truck with trailer while paying for gas, to full blown semi trucks with open space, to dedicated shippers that use uship to fill their routes, to any other number of people who are willing to move your Sh$t in exchange for money.

There are usually pictures of the shippers setup (enclosed vs open, etc),there is a rating system for each shipper, optional insurance, etc etc. So you know what you re dealing with before hand.

All the shippers can make bids on your job to keep the rates competitive, or if you have a price in mind you can list the job at X price until someone accepts it.

Dealer coordinated shipping for mine. ~$960 from Tampa to shreveport. The quotes I got were several hundred more. Not sure if that helps or not...
