MPG help!

Hi, I have a brand new '06 PreRunner SR5 with the 4cyl. and 5 spd regular cab. I'm only getting 20 mpg with ALL highway driving. I literally have one stop sign and one red light during my 40 mile drive to work. Is anyone else getting as bad gas mileage or is it just me? I also wanted to ask if anyone knows about the "vornado" and/or those piggyback ECU things that are cheap but supposedly add hp AND add mpg? Would a K&N help it breathe better enough to improve the mpg?

Question 2, I've got an odd shimmy that feels like the truck is coming off the chassis sometimes depending where I'm at on the freeway and only at freeway speeds. Could that be due to the factory lift and/or the stock tires combined with the short wheelbase of a regular cab?

something is wrong, your prerunner is suppose to get better gas mileage than my 4x4 4cyl. acc cab. i have a thule rack and a 28' span ladder. i use my truck for work a lot of stop and go and i get that kind of gas mileage you get.

 

I Just Bought My New 4x4 4 Banger And Am Getting The Same Exact Gas Mileage...i Was Expecting Mid Twenties...granted I Have Only Filled The Tank Once In Very Cold, Mixed Driving Conditions, But I Was Hoping For Much Better. I Am Not Hauling Or Towing Anything And The Majority Of That Has Been With Just Me In The Truck.

 

Your truck isn't going to get optimal gas mileage until it is broken in. It takes about 1000mi. Also, not sure where you live, but many places have switched over to the winter blend gasoline; which means about 2-3 miles less per gallon.

Don't waste your money on the "Tornado" devices as they are proven NOT to work. They actually cause your mileage to go down, and lose hp. Ask yourself this, "If those things really worked, why wouldn't any car company put them into their cars already?" since most car companies spend millions in R&D to increase mpg by 1 mi.

Also with a lift on your truck, it's going to be a little bit wobbly since you're higher off the ground, and probably havea stiffer suspension. Could be the road you're driving on too. Wouldn't hurt to have the dealer tighten up the bracket's, fasteners, and joints of your lift when you go in for an oil change.

Right on the money.

 

The best I have gotten w/new 06 4x4 access cab, 4cy, 5spd. is 24 mpg. Going 68mph which is about 2500rpm on the road. I do have 7000 miles on now or there abouts. LUV the truck.

 

If all else does not work, try doing a ECU reflash, this has help many of our toyota customers with fuel mileage. What you have to do is turn your head lights on, remove the negitive battery post and wait 15min - to 30min. reattach negitive battery post and turn headlights off, drive your vehicle like you normaly do, you should see a differance.

I think I'll try that... I have a Prerunner Double cab long bed V6 automatic TRD sport... The tag said 19-22 mpg. During break in we got 18.5 MPG and the mpg's hasn't increased much. We went on a road trip and on the highway.. going 70mph we got 19mpg... I was hoping for better than that.

 

What does this do exactly?

 

This resets the computor memory and clears all the ecu's value's to re-learn your driving habits and adjusts the ecu to get you the best fuel economy and performance.

flashing it will reset its values or adjust them so that you got optimial mpg, hp, or tourque...
