I heat mostly with wood pellets now too.

Still need that chainsaw though from time to time.
It's such a pleasure to run a good one.

    About wood pellets...

My local supplier is pushing softwood pellets now.
Made in Virginia. I'm thinking they're made from Southern Yellow Pine sawdust.
They have a lot of pine plantations in Southside Virginia (south of the James River).

My supplier says some customers are leery of them.
Because burning pine in a wood stove can lead to creosote buildup.
I did some research and it's not really a problem.
I verified this by burning a few tons of them last year.
They were actually better than the hardwood pellets I'd been using (less ash, no creosote).

I recently read about people using softwood pellets in cat litter boxes.
They're better at absorbing odors and when saturated, just crumble to wet sawdust.
So you can scoop out the ones that are still good and dump the residue.
The residue is compostable, unlike clay cat litter.

Tractor Supply is selling softwood pellets as kitty litter...for a big ass markup.
Screw that, I'll have plenty of the cheap ones.

    Sounds like a good idea.
I'm gonna transition the kitty cats over to that... if they'll cooperate.
No more kitty litter sticking to little feets and getting tracked all over the house. :)

Good morning all my fellow TW screwballs. I hope that everyone has a great weekend, no matter what part of the country your in. Had a good 3.4 mile walk this morning. I can't wait for some lower humidity weather. I need to paint my skid plates that I've had off for 2 months now, but in this weather, I don't think the pain would dry with 88-90% humidity. time for a shower and food, then off to the flea market if I can catch my neighbor.

    @Hobbs Knot, heh. :rofl:

    I'm guessing that's Maple.
It looks a lot like spalted maple I've cut on my Alaskan sawmill.

The Spalt (streaking) is from Blue Stain Fungus that gets started when the wood is dead and out in the elements for a couple of years.
Up to a point, the spalting doesn't weaken or soften the wood.

The cutting boards with the handles are Spalted Birch.
    They're very hard.

    Good morning whatever people

Enjoying a nice cup of coffee this morning before all hell ensues closing up the house for the week and setting up the foggers before we leave.

I miss the days we autotunned everyone

You remember the backing up lady?

Heck yes! Well it won't be our last trip back because we'll have plenty of friends and family but it'll be nice to have the house listed for sale and make our last mortgage/insurance on it in a couple month's. That'll be the real celebration

You need to wash your truck. :boink:
You'll only get a reply ban.
We've not had any of the softwood ones over here. We usually buy a pallet from Rural King in October. Usually lasts us until the first part of January.
I love spalted maple, but I prefer birdseye maple over spalted.
