So Toyota sent out the interim notice of the fuel pump recall months ago.. well my fuel pump crapped out and no parts are available yet on the recall. So the dealer has my truck sitting in their yard waiting for recall parts to fix it. Supposed to be about 45 days..
Meanwhile the dealer got me a 2018 Nissan frontier as a longterm loaner. I'm actually surprised how much more power this thing as over my 19' v6 trd 4x4 taco. The tranny is much nicer too. Its drives nice and is nimble. Too bad the interior is so crappy.. I might be tempted to trade in the taco on the 2020 frontier.. it has a new 310 HP engine that gets 24mpg highway.

    Thanks!

The wait is interesting as it is supposed to be a known and limited range of vehicles. Hopefully there are no expansions . . .

    Good luck!

Not what i've read on the mpg....best gotten when tested was about 20 mpg from the 4wd v6 auto. I'd like to see more time with the automatic in this frontier. I doubt its anymore nimble than the taco, plus from what i've been told it has more wind noise to.

The 2020 frontier has a new engine and 9 speed tranny. The older ones get terrible mpg. The turning radius is noticeably larger than my taco

Whoa. A worse turning radius than the Taco? Not good.

I was surprised who bad our volvo wagon was until I realized how wide the 5cyl engines were. It was embarrassing at times to have to three point turn into a parking spot. There's no excuse in a truck.

    Where?

A car with a 19.5ft turning radius is pathetic?

You want pathetic, my 2001 tundra needed a parking lot to turn around. I could do better with my boat.

This was a test review on the 2020 with the new drivetrain. Maybe under ideal highway conditions it could reach 24 mpg, but under real world driving they only were able to get just short of 20.
On another note a local privately owned water company here switched to the ranger. I happened to know one of the guys that works for them. They really like the ranger very much after having to tacomas the last 2 years. Before that they had chevy colorado's which everyone claimed they were a pos.

    :D

    That's crazy.

I only drove one of those once and couldn't get out fast enough. The rubber band throttle was horrible.

Strange. Had the fuel pump recall done on the wife’s '19 Corolla almost a month ago. They don't actually replace the pump assembly....just the actual pump. Wonder what's taking so long on the Taco?

These reports seem strange to me. So certain runs of pumps over the past 7 years are known to be failure prone. Meaning good pumps were also being made and are being made. Back in March, they targeted September for the "fix" to be released.

Why is it a problem for dealers to get good pumps for the vehicles actually failing? And they supposedly are going to be performing this recall next month on our trucks. Something doesn't add up. I mean seriously, how many of these are actually failing in the wild? Toyota can't come up with a few hundred good pumps to replace failed ones? What is going in the 2020s? Shit stinks...

Try making a u turn. Those frontiers have a turn radius of a cruise boat.

Not sure whats mean't by that, but i really liked the tundra with its 4.7...plenty of smooth torque for pulling trailers compared to my taco...performance was good. The biggest issue i had it couldn't refuse passing a gas pump, especially during winter months.

Yeah. The motor was good but the electronic throttle body was a mess for me. Massive delay and overcompensation.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Used to own a '96 850 m/t. Turning radius and getting up to speed were horrible but overall a very reliable car with a lot of "inovative" features for the time period. Funny enough the 5cyl engines were designed by Porsche.

Maybe because its my first truck but I really don't find the Taco turning all that bad.

Back to the topic though, who makes the oem pump (usually its someone like Delphi)? That technology hasn't changed all that much so it must be either who supplies parts to them (like the electric pump motor) or something at the point of assembly. Those things typically only produce 50psi or so.

It was okay. We liked our saab much better.

It is a Denso pump. @MOC221_ posted a very good document about it recently.

Something had to be wrong. You couldn't ask the throttle response to be any better.
