All I have is a one bedroom apartment and my Mossberg 500, Saiga AK74, and Beretta 92FS stay in the closet right next to my bed. So it would really depend on what mood I'm in for the off chance of someone booting my door in the middle of the night. Also, my dog (pit bull/chow) is an absolute b**** to anyone but me.

But if I did have to have only one gun for home defense I would have to go with my shotgun.

    Same crap everyone else got

If you're the odd one out, them I'm right there with you. I have my 8.3in 9mm ar pistol as my HD gun. 33rd of FMJ HP's that I can shoot well and follow up shots are a breeze. Has a quality light and my wife can shoot it with no issues.
I'm sure my 11.5 inch ar would do fine too but my wife can't shoot it as well.

I have my ar9 secured in a Hornady AR safe bolted to my wall.

Definitely try a couple of different models and go with what works best for you. Like I said, everyone's eyes (and preferences) seem to vary and luckily there are a lot of good products on the market. I still like Sig's old school white bar and dot, S&W's red insert front ramp (revolvers) and Novak's on 1911s and Hi-Powers, but I got a good deal on the Truglos so that's what I put on the Glock 19 to replace the horrible factory plastic sights (I don't actually care for Glocks but everybody ought to own at least one of them I guess). Some folks love the ghost ring style, I didn't care for them at all when I handled a demo gun with them. Ghost rings are OK on a defensive shotgun but I don't care for them on a hunting gun, again, just personal preference. Next handgun I buy is probably going to be a Sig 365xl cut for a red dot.

Practice with whatever you have is far more important but a good set that works for you can definitely help improve your shot time.

If you don't want to stamp an AR, at least put a Tail Hook brace on it. Their all metal, and as pleasing to the eye as a pistol brace can be IMHO.

The brace opens up kinda sorta like the SPAS shotguns.

I put one on my Shockwave. Was going to stamp it, but compared to my old Wingmaster, and Winchester 1200, the action is rough.

I have an sba3 on my 11.5 ar. I'll probably get the same for the 9mm. I just had this shockwave 2 already, so I used it. It's adjustable and the recoil on the 9mm are is not much so it fits the needs well. It's much better than the original blade but yes the tail hook or sba3 would be better but that are more than 2x what the blade 2.0 cost me.

$300 Mossberg 930 security from grab a gun (love this place for awesome discounted sweet guns) Installed upgrades Orgun black marine spacer tube, competition forearm retainer(makes duel/quad loads easier), blue competition follower, enhanced bolt release button, tacstar 6 round side saddle.

    1st round #8 birdshot
Next 4 rounds in the tube 00 buckshot
    Last 2 rounds 1oz slug

Side saddle is loaded with 4 rounds of 00 buck and 2 rounds of slug as back up.

i also have a 24 round quad load belt setup that is loaded with 16 rounds of 00 buck and 8 rounds of 1oz slugs. This one is for those "they have not broken into the house yet" situations where i have time to setup and get the kids into the safe room.

As far as defense goes i have a 16 foot hallway which i'd use as a kill zone while the wife puts the kids in the safe room and backs me up with the ar-15(hopefully LOL).

Sup Casey? What did you decide to go with?

I'm still a fan of the short gun but I was recently introduced to this sweet shotgun on another thread on here.

    https://www.beretta.com/en/1301-tactical/

It is not cheap but man what a gun. Check out some vids on it.

I have 3 12 gauge shotguns, but this ONG 870 is my all time favorite. I think I paid $239 for it.

Stick em if they get close enough!

I have not read more than the first 3 posts but I'll chime in. You can use what you feel most trained with. Period. AR, pistol, shotty, 45-70 gov whathaveyou.
The biggest most important thing one can do is training and preparedness: with your wife/gf or wife AND gf (or any pronoun or gender come on), kids etc regarding many scenarios.
Obviously long guns are at a disadvantage due to corners but if one can allow themselves to feel silly at worst: practice with your tool of choice. Train with SO or roommates on how to react, how to support each other, how to survive!
TLDR: A human is only as useful as their tools, their tools are only as useful as their use. Learn how to use.

Man, outta curiosity I just looked on gun broker, same gun is bidding at over $1500 with 2 days left to go. My dad and his whole side of the family is from Ohio. I'm gonna have to keep my eyes peeled for one of these sweet shotty's at a reasonable price.

I got an email from Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore on 10-17-18. I've bought a boat load of ammo and a few guns from them, and get emails from them when they have specials.

I was getting ready to delete it without reading it, because I was buying a new Tacoma at the time...then I saw Remington Wingmaster in the email, and opened it up.

When I saw what it was and the price, I ordered one immediately. I heard they sold out in 2 hours.

I'm not a fan of folding stocks, but figured it would be more valuable because of the cool factor. Another glad I did because when people started posting pictures of their fixed stock models some were beat up pretty bad. I honestly don't think mine had ever been shot. Other than missing the button that locks the stock in position, mine was perfect. That button was impossible to find anywhere, found a machinist that would make me one if I got the specs on it. Just for the hell of it I called SOS and asked them if there was a chance there could have been some spare parts laying in the crate they received them in. Girl put me on hold a while and said they found everything except the C clip, and mailed the parts out that day. I bought a C clip at ACE.

The fixed stock versions were $229.99
