Any pointers on what to replace this with? Seems like there are a lot of options - paper backed vs veneer backed, type of wood, thickness, glue etc... I'd appreciate any recommendations.IMG_3006.jpg

When I first looked at the photos, I thought it may have been your wife’s closet. Nice work.

Coincidentally my wife also works for a fashion designer (Oscar De La Renta), so luckily she gets a discount on the already over inflated prices.
BTW, I like the Twain quotes, I'm a really big fan of good ol Samuel Longhorn Clemens.
I lived on Kauai for five years so my favorite quote of his is from his time spent in Hawaii (including Kauai).

"How sad it is to think of the multitudes who have gone to their graves on this beautiful island and never knew there was a hell"
    Mark Twain

This was a bitch!! The bench is only two feet wide but I didn't take into consideration that in the corner it's three feet deep,
and an orbital sander in my world is a fine sander it's not really designed to take finish and stain off, so I was in this position for about three hours.
The whole floor was 850 feet of white oak stained with Duraseal provincial, two coats of Bona oil sealer, final coat Bona (Mega One) satin water based ploy.

I'm just curious, would it have been faster to just take the bench out? Or did you not expect it to take that long with the orbital?

Of course it would have been much easier if it was removable but it was built in place and fully attached to the wall (definitely not one removable unit).
I have a high-speed grinder with sand paper on it but it doesn't have a vacuum attachment and in that position it was way too dusty..

That is a "not-to-bad old "chifferobe" you have there. Wood looks to be OAK veneer. While veneer repair can be done -- it can be slow and tricky. You may want to see how that top piece is attached to the rest of the piece. If it can be removed without much damage to the rest of the piece, then you could replace it with a solid top. The main question is are you going to keep the wood look or paint it?
Most of the time these pieces were made fast and cheap, and they can be a bugger to take apart and reglue. Many I have taken the time to re-do came out stronger than they were from the original factory.
    Good luck with it -
PM me if you need more help

one more thing you could do a quickie on it from the pictures I see. You would reglue the loose veneer pieces. Many times the veneer is down with just old hide glue (water activated and made from rendered animal hides) Try a little moisture under the loose parts and heavy pressure from the top. (flat board pieces and weight on top of them). It may work in reactivating the glue. If it does then you could fill in the missing piece with some veneer pieces and/or wood filler to match. Coat then with a poly or (my preference) good ole oil based varnish.

Tired of phone disappearing in between seat mocked up a fix and mounted a black hawk holster. I made it too long but seems to hold good.

Nice piece. If it were mine, I'd get the mirror assembly off and then try to remove the top piece. It will be easier to work with if it removed. You should be able to scrap the veneer off with a putty knife and a heat gun. As Mark said, it's probably just hide glue holding it on.

I'd recommend checking out some videos from Thomas Johnson. He's a furniture restorer. He has a lot of videos that feature veneer repair.

That should do the job. Do you plan to leave it natural or paint it?

Looks like the M&P has been carried more than once with the blue wear on the slide. My G19 is getting that way too.

I'll prob stain it dark, i just put it together real quick to see if it would hold.

Its XDsub compact, but easy to conceal, been carrying it for a long time. Never had a ftf or misfire, not good on long range but short is fine

I haven’t checked in the Tacoma, but on my Jeep black satin spray paint matched the console perfectly.

Now I can see it better on my iPad instead of the phone. I should have know with the back strap. I talk to some guys that constantly talk about CCW and their side arm looks brand new without a blemish. When I tell them that they never carry that gun and they ask how would I know. Then I show them mine. Mine is a tool. I take care of it but it is not jewelry.

Yup! The ones that i take care of i never concealed carry for that reason. If its a carry gun i want it to function, not for looks. Also the worn in look is hard to beat for a carry gun
