    Hey all,
My 96 4Runner keeps stalling. Code pops up P0335 Crankshaft position sensor. Swapped sensor out of my 03 Tacoma. Both engines are V6 M/T. 4Runner has 1st gen S/C if that matters. So I bench tested the sensor and tested pigtail for ground and all was good. So now I want to check continuity on other wire of pigtail back to ECM. I can see ground wire is red/white I believe but can’t make out other wire color definitely. Does anyone have schematic showing color and which plug it runs to back at ECM?

Since this CPS generates its own current signal can I assume that there is no testing for any signal off pigtail coming from ECM?

BTW when it stalls at a stop if I try to restart WITHOUT turning key to off position first, it will crank but no start. Once I turn key to off position and then back it will start right up. This makes me think an ECM problem. Idk

    Any help would be appreciated.

You have checked That both sensors are wired the same??

If the ECM does not see the crank sensor signal it turns off the fuel.

It thinks the engine is no longer running

If I had the correct EWD I would share it look for the color of wires at the sensor on the ECM they should be the same color

Don't know for sure, but I assume it's a variable 5v signal; once you get a schematic, connect the sensor up, backprobe it, and check for signal. If no signal, then disconnect the harness at the ECU and do a continuity check.

They are the same sensor on the 3.4L.
So would fuel shut off be more of a sputtering stop as opposed to instant off that I get? It’s like the spark just goes away.
So I’ve heard of back probing. What is fine enough to stick into the back of the harness grommets? I assume I start the truck or just turn it to on?

    thanks to all

    Update:

took URD module out of loop and plugged directly into stock ECU. Problem solved. It is issue with 7th module.

    thanks to all

You might have mentioned you had added electrical goodies

Been on there for years. I was working my way from sensor on back.

    thanks again.
