Thanks. The current suspension is only temporary. It will get a real suspension after the tcase swap and a rear locker are done. No idea how long that might take tho...

I'm a pourfeshunal.

 

im trying to figure it out for someone... it has a j pattern shift. and an actuator on the back that the 4wd button controls. im seriously stumped. its a 2000 4runner..



it also have Vacuum ADD.. . which i thought was done with for 2000?

 

theres definitely an actuator on the t-case. but he says it has a J pattern shift too

 

hmmm apparently its an AWD and j shift truck from toyota.. im lost.. ive never seen this.

 

That's the multimode 4x4 setup

Pushing the button activates "awd" and allows the drive shaft front to spin differently from the drive shaft rear.

This allows the vehicle to be driven at speeds while in "4x4"

Moving the j shift engages true 4x4

It's available for 1999 and 2000 Limited models

 

I finically figured that out. Never actually seen that on a 00

 

Was so slow typing on my phone but there you have it.

If the multimode setup fails, you can still engage 4x4 by use of the j shifter.

 

Sounds like a Friday assembly

 

Now.. did the 2000s have vacuum ADD or electronic. I’m trying to help him figure out why he has no 4x4

 

It was a 2 year option.

Rear locker was also available giving you - AWD, 4H, 4L, and 4L locked.

After 2000, rear locker wasn't available for 3rd gen models.

 

This trucks a beautiful 2000 limited with the rear locker and no sunroof.

 

It's electronic.

Is this person using the push button?

That setup can and has failed and there are multiple reports found online.

Have this person shift it via the j shifter.

 

Should be same as first gen Tacos, vacuum.

 

That's actually pretty cool, button activated AWD and j shift 4x4

 

Later 1st gens were electronic.

Earlier 1st gens were vacuum.

I thought that didn't come around until the 4th gens in 2003?
