Yeah I got booted from a training in CT in a few weeks because of it. Even though business travel is permitted cross state lines.

but. Vermont nailed it with their presentation of the data. I think it’s annoying that they used a different shade set for Vermont but oh well.

    https://accd.vermont.gov/covid-19/restart/cross-state-travel

basically we passed a per capita threshold even though we have less cases. Because we have less people, it’s more per thousand or whatever they’re using.

Im still going to mass tomorrow and probably/maybe Maine. I don’t have front plates I’ll just back in.

I guess it's ok if you're just passing through. Not sure if they'll ask for proof.

Yup, per county makes sense. I just saw our governor tightening restrictions state-wide because numbers are on the rise. Those numbers are not coming from this area, I wish they'd leave us alone!

They are by Boston and 2.1 or something % when 5 was the threshold. Goal posts successfully moved for the 1000th fucking time since this started.

Saw that MA is delaying the next phase.. dumb. We've been here for a month and have seen new cases go from around 200 per day, to 3-400 per day now. People are going out to restaurants, the beach, stores and whatnot and to me, this increase seems reasonable. Ma is still doing really well with this.

I believe the next phase won't happen until there is a vaccine, which is return to normal. They can go back phases though if numbers start going bad again.

I know we aren’t allowed political but rolling back phases is not going to go over well after governors made their views known about the protests. I won’t say more on that.

yeah if we 5 percent and now it’s cases per 100k which, whatever. It’ll be a rough few months and then then fall/winter will come and people won’t want to travel at all anyway. But by that time the hot topic will be schools.

My kids’ school just made the decision to go 100% remote this fall and not reopen. Not like we have to actually work for a living or anything...

This is one of the only instances where I find myself agreeing with the MTA--the unions were kind of the final straw in many cases because they were rejecting the state's guidance. It feels like the state manipulated data to support 3 ft instead of 6 ft order to reopen. When you space classrooms 6 ft, even having half the kids at a time wasn't possible in many cases. They knew that and magically the report said 3 ft when it came out.

Bottom line--if 3 ft is fine in a classroom, why is 6 ft mandated everywhere else? Can't have it both ways, and the most frustrating thing to me in all of this (not just in education) is it seems like there is a lot of contradictory guidance and some practices/mandates that are pure theatrics.

Sorry I’m late to reply on this. I’d like that . I planned an extra day off after Labor Day for my birthday. That could be possible, or sooner

I wanna thank @ABA180 for the D-rings  . Before I proceed with the replacement does anybody know the torque requirements for these?

Also will I be able to back these bolts out slightly so I can turn the rings to suit my needs
    Thanks

Honestly, from my perspective, I didn’t really know how I felt about my kids going back to school. My youngest is going into kindergarten and my oldest into 2nd grade, they aren’t going to be good about distancing or wearing a mask all day. I’m glad they did make the decision they did, what sucks is the position it puts my wife and I in. Our kids are young, they can’t just be given online classes or homework and expect them to follow along with minimal guidance, this direction basically means we have to home school our kids. This direction is coming as work places are opening back up and employees are expected to come back to work. I have a job where it’s not really conducive to me working from home so this puts me in a very awkward situation between work and my kids. My kids always come first but, let’s be honest, if I lose my job, it’s going put our whole family in a bad spot. We have some tough decisions to make in the very near future...

There are no good options for schools/parents, IMO. The ones that are doing a hybrid/full time in person will only be for as a long as it takes for an outbreak to happen at the school and then it'll be back to full time remote. Again, just my opinion.

The working parents are really going to suffer. Even if one parent works from home, their attention is going to be diverted frequently..especially with children those ages. Add in that one will have to schedule their work lunchtime around the kiddos, which might not be possible if one's job involves meetings and such.

I work in manufacturing, one of our engineers is at home with the kids. He’s in calls with screaming kids all the time. I mean that’s a little bit annoying but so far everyone, from plant manager down, has been supportive of it. A few others have been WFH similarly, and there hasn’t been anyone giving them any grief because we all understand. So. On the plus side at least, even if it is tough, the other side understands the challenges and at least at my plant, has been very supportive of the hardships.

For what it's worth, this year is not going to be the same as last year in terms of kids at home schooling. Last year teachers basically had no guidelines in place for the teachers to work with in terms of actual lesson plans, standards, etc. This year, there is an expectation of guidelines, standards, etc that teachers have to meet, in-class or not. If my wife teaches full remote, she will still be evaluated as a teacher as if it were any normal year.

As such, if her district goes full remote she will have to provide actual recorded lessons for the kids. Her district is also investing in a platform designed for at-home schooling that does things like mark attendance at various times, etc.

I'm not going to comment on the whole hassle that is keeping kids at home, but many, many districts are doing what they can to provide the best quality of education for the kids at home. I think it's unfair to call it home schooling. You will have to make sure the kids are present and engage in the lesson, but the actual teaching part (providing the curriculum and instruction) will be done by the teachers.

Honestly, it’s not the teachers i’m worried about, they’ve been awesome. Last semester, even with my young kids, I felt like they got really creative in finding ways to keep kids engaged. The problem is, it will require a lot more effort on the parents’ part to keep the kids engaged when schooling remote. Last semester, we learned very quickly that we can’t both work and try to keep up with our kids’ schooling. We had to make a tough decision to cut my wife’s hours way back so she had more ‘free time’ to dedicate to basically home schooling. The teachers are putting in a lot of effort, but not every family is able to make the decision we did and dedicate the time to making sure their kids are keeping up. And I’m not talking about the dead beat parents who just don’t care, i’m talking about the parents who are living paycheck to paycheck and can’t afford to lose any of their income. I honestly don’t know how some families are going to be able to do this.

Interestingly, we anticipate that some parents will jump to "we'll just homeschool", not understanding that in order to do that they need to submit an educational plan that the superintendent approves and that as long as they homeschool they receive no support from the district.

Even with my situation of being home full time, that's only for sure this year. Next year we don't know..projection is sometime in January and a staggered schedule but even that's fluid
