    New guy post:
    (I searched "Bed size" first)

I am having a hard time finding the practical inner dimensions of the bed on the various iterations of 3rd Gen Tacomas - and what it boils down to for me is a very practical question and overcomes the need to be looking at charts of numbers.

Which, if any, will allow a 4'x8' sheet of plywood to lay flat in the bed, between the wheelwells and not stick out more than a foot past the end of the (open) tailgate?

If none, I will be looking at another Tundra.

    Thank you!

Yeah... if you want to comfortably haul lumber then just go ahead and get a tundra or realize you're gonna have a trailer.

Nope, you will need to go to the Tundra.

Oh hey, it looks like it will fit on top of the wheelwells (52.5" wide). I could use supports to hold it at the rear.
And that first photo sounds like the short bed is being discussed so 60.5" plus tailgate (18"?) total 78.5" so an 18" overhang...might work.
I really don't want a full size pu (Tundra).
(my 03 Tundra has become an extension of my body now but its getting long in the tooth)

You can certainly build a front and rear support at the wheel well height.

That's what Ridgeline does. The whole truck bed is the height of the wheel well. Then they advertise they can fit a 4X8 in their truck bed.

    Thanks I will lookup Ridgeline.

is the rear wheel or other structure close to the inner side of the wheel well? It looks like you only need 3” each side, to get the 48”. (thinking; skilled metal fabricator & 4 hrs shop time)....
probably if it could be done, Toyota would have already)

I suppose (thicker) 4x8 sheets could also be loaded on an angle.

What I really want is a brand new 2003 Tundra, lol!

    thanks, friends

    Buy your Tundra and GTFO.

    ;)

Kidding, all Toyota owners are welcome. We only have a cap on Chevy, Ram and Ford owners. And absolutely no Honda owners.

This is how you haul 4x8 in a Tacoma.

Not my picture, robbed it from the google machine. It looks like two 2x4's in each slot or I'm sure you could use one wider piece.

True true. Pretty good design compromise by Toyota.

I've had good luck with a 2"x8" front support and loading 4'x8' sheetrock with the tailgate closed and a couple 2"x4"s for support.
I've only carried 4 sheets so far but I'm sure I could load way more and still be safe.

Though I do have the aluminum Mobtown tailgate plate which adds some strength to the flimsy Tacoma tailgate.
