2002 Miss fire codes

Hey, I have a 02 tacoma that is constantly throwing engine missfire codes. I have did a lot of research on here and have replaced all my ignition coils, all my spark plugs, spark plug wires, and fuel injectors multiple times, PCV valve to get the same missfire codes. I had pretty much decided to fix it with a piece or electrical tape over the check engine light but today the truck did actually start to missfire. The truck also has a weird sound that happens when I'm accelerating, its a whiney almost vacuum cleaner sounding noise that gets louder as the rpms go up then when it shifts the sound goes completely away until the rpms start to climb again.

I'm to the point that I'm sick of trying to figure out what it is and tired of dumping money into it. The engine has 277,000 miles on it so its had a good run and was wondering if anyone else has had anything like this or if its just time to break down and get a new engine for it. A misfire is not a cause for a new engine lol,
Do you know what the codes were? If you do research what they mean and they usually correlate to a part.
I know you said you replaced the coils and plugs but there’s a reason why it’s happening not that the engine is just bad.
Go to autozone, rent a timing light and check the timing. It’s pretty damn easy and should take a couple minutes to do.

I would best that it is your crankshaft position sensor which is fairly easy to replace. My donor truck randomly misfires for the first couple minutes of driving only under load if I haven’t driven it in a couple days. But daily it has no problem. I definitely suspect the crank position sensor because that is what relays the timing to the computer to ignite the spark plugs at the right time. Your engine isn’t dead lol. My donor has 297k and is still running strong despite the little misfire issue that happens every so often. Try driving it a little bit and see if it goes away. It won’t hurt anything, but you don’t want to drive it like that all the time obviously.

 

@Ccrowe323 its always p 302 and p 305 which run off the same ignition coil, spark plug wire etc. The truck runs fine besides the weird sound when accelerating. Its weird to because when I'm just cruising at 70 mph the check engine light will come on flashing and then as soon as I stop it goes completely out until I get back up to speed. I haven't checked the timing or crank position sensor so I'll give that a try!

 

It could just be a vacuum leak, considering you stop hearing it when the rpms are low and then gets louder as it accelerate (pulling in more air). Honestly I forgot about that part when I was writing my reply. You can get silicone vacuum line on Amazon. This is what I used, comes with enough for everything.

edit: to make it an easier job, I would suggest only taking one line off at a time and replacing as you go so you don’t have a pile of hoses trying to figure out what size fits where

 

everything Uv checked doesnt make a ' whiney ' noise

duplicate make note at what rpm/gear

im thinking ' vacuum leak ' for the noise

if the engine is actually misfiring that U can feel at 70mph.................could be a cylinder is down

do a compression chk

a leak down chk

for the miles accumulated on Ur engine
