That's a very interesting pack design. Looks like it might actually be good for what @MattJakobs is looking for with the camera equipment and such.

So if I'm reading this correctly so far the recommended daypacks are:
    Hill People Gear Tarahumara/Connor/Umlindi
    Opsrey Mutant 22L
    Black Diamond Bullet 18L
    Osprey Kestrel 38
    Gregory Zulu 30
    Mystery Ranch Scree 32
    Mystery Ranch Coulee 25

My wallet is screaming at me right now...

Giving this whole hammock sleeping thing a try this weekend. Inflated the pad enough to take shape. Going up to about 9k feet so hopefully the pad gives me enough insulation

Desolation? Emigrant? Secret spot? The gf and I did 26 miles in desolation the other weekend. We were way under 9k feet but were so hot lol. Otherwise great weather in the Sierras right now.

It’ll be me, the lady friend, and the dogs. Hopefully the weathers nice during the day and not too chilly at night.

we’ve yet to go to desolation but it’s in the list

Not sure what kind of temps you're expecting but, cold elbows can be a thing in hammocks. They usually aren't on the pad and tend to compress the sleeping bags insulation against the hammock wall. If it's chilly, bring a couple small pieces of clothing to stuff under your elbows.

Seconding the cold elbow comment. The endgame on a hammock is definitely the over/underquilt combo.

I can comfortably hammock down to about 30 degrees in a 20 degree bag. But like was said earlier, youll have cold spots on your shoulders or any area pressing against the hammock

My mom and dad took me, backpacking, to Lake Gilmore when I was 10. Summited Mt Tallack. Fond memories.

Another reason for a good UQ. :)

I'm also a proponent for upper & lower quilts, but I have no idea what temps you'll experience. If there are any bugs, recommend investing in a "bug net" for your hammock.

Expecting high 30s-low 40s at night. Didn't even think about areas not covered by the pad. Hopefully all goes well.

I'll be bringing my 15 degree bag. This plus the insulated pad should keep me warm enough. But again, hopefully the shoulders, knees, elbows, etc. aren't hanging off

If the pad doesn't work out this trip, I probably won't do hammock camping when cold. My tent/pad/bag will be the same weight, if not less than an underquilt, overquilt, and hammock.

    I've rocked a hammock/15F sleeping bag/thiccc yoga mat combo down to 33deg, I think you'll be fine.

I like my Hammock Gear Economy 20° UQ. I use a WM sleeping bag on top.

Wow. That's never happened to my Nemo GoGo Elite bivy sack.

What's the story? Did it rip slowly and deposit your ass gently on the ground or was it sudden and shocking?

First time taking the dogs backpacking. Usually it’s me and the lady in our Nemo Hornet Elite but the two dogs kind of make that impossible. She and her dog were going to take the tent, me and my dog were on hammock duty (he on the ground under me). Both of our dogs are known for having separation anxiety (GSP mix and German Wirehair) and when she left to go water, her dog (the GSP mix) jumped on me and his nails ripped the hammock and my weight proceeded to open the hammock up. It was a pretty casual fall, nothing painful, but enough to cut a hole in the bottom of my Nemo sleeping pad.

From there, we decided to pack back up and hike the rest of the trail out. She slept in the tent at the trail head and I slept in the car. We made the best out of it but carrying all that unneeded weight for no good reason kind of sucked. Especially since all dog harnesses are out of stock everywhere so I was stuck carrying 12 cups of dog food.

Other than the whole hammock debacle, we had a great time and made the best of it
