Got power back on yesterday afternoon.
Of course i ran the generator 3 extra hours since I had no idea power was back up since i turned the main off.

mid-60's RV generator struggled a bit, ate some oil, but kept the freezers up and running.
We got hammered pretty bad down my way.

Looking for a new "modern" generator when things calm down.
Several people I know recommended the Harbor Freight predator line of generators.

    Looking at this one...

Great to hear you! We still have trees down on wires up here - one is right around the corner from me.

If I were going to buy a new putt putt, I’d consider an inverter model; although they are pricey. Much better on fuel. I go through about 12-15 gallons a day with the one I have now - Honeywell 7500E

    Good Morning

Humid and chance of storms :rain:

Good news from my stepson Logan. He graduated from college last year for IT.
No luck finding a job around here and then Covid 19 hit. He packed a bag and moved to Austin TX to live with his brother. Got jobs doing delivery work.
This past week he landed a job doing IT work. Good starting wage with benefits.

My generator fits right in with this 50+ thread.
As I said she struggled being it's only 3ooo watts.
So a 6500 would be more than ample for what I need it for..

Oh man that’s great. My youngest graduated with an environmental degree and can’t find anything she’s working at Starbucks. We are just dying to convince her to go back to school

This is my backup gen. Little 2300 watt.

Ran for 3 days when ice storm hit way back when.
Just can’t seem to part with it.

I have gone in the woods and welded a trailer with my pocket rocket and this.
    Worked...

Both shoulders hurt all the time. It is what it is. Happier? Not really just traded one bull shit job for another. Life moves on I’ll look for another one actively when all the current mess is over

Last year I ponied up for a i4500dual fuel. Its worth it because its so quiet you can't hear it running and you don't have to worry about propane going bad if it sits for months. Its also button start so its easy for the wife to start it.

That 40lb tank will run about 4 days strait. I have two of them now. I ran two fridges, 82" tv and surround sound, a fan, lights and a few other things and it was only at 25% capacity. I have a switchover box to connect it to the power panel but haven't hooked that up yet.

    Good morning.
The last week or so the mornings cooled down (mid/high 70's) a little to where we had a little break. Good sign we're coming up on the back side of summer (or atleast past center). Next week is supposed to ramp up again to mid-80's for a low with 1-teens for a high. So early morning start times are still a thing for a while. Still haven't had rain since March so with any luck we'll be getting a shower now and then in the coming weeks. Usually we get monsoons but nothing this summer. September usually brings on a few. Hopefully y’all on the other side don't get whacked anymore with those heavy storms.

I've been thinking about getting a conversion kit so I can run LP. Just gota put my mind to it.

I had a 6 circuit transfer switch. Didn't like being limited to what I could power.
So, last year we had a main panel box installed. New box has a built in transfer switch. I can now run what ever circuit I want with the generator. Just have to make sure I don't overload things.

    I installed a lockout.
    Have all circuits available.
Can’t run without the main disconnect.

    Funny talking about gens.

I just broke down and ordered this.

    83579BDC-5346-46E4-BBA0-3B2C56711AC3.jpg

I know I can do calculations and such but I’m a gauge real time guy.

Since I got rid of my electric heat I have most of my electrical on one side of the box.
Lost of unused on the other.
Maybe someone can chime in @MoneyMan55 and tell me if I should move some of the breakers for lights, outlets, etc to “Balance the load of my gen”.
Or it will take care of itself and I shouldn’t overthink it..

RT side has Furnace, Fridge etc and generator breaker

LT side has range, dryer, garage (which definitely be use) and 8 non used double for the old electric heat breakers.

I will experiment with the range top to see if I could run one or two and if I could
Then maybe not moving anything because of the load I’ll put on the system when the range
    top is being used..
    Just curious
    Opinions welcomed.
