I’m awaiting the pickup of my new (to me) 2007 Tacoma SR5 PreRunner Tacoma. Got her with ~73,XXX miles bone stock. With the purchase of this car I’m already filling up my cart with parts and accessories but frankly I have no idea what I’m doing.

I’m 16 working 16 hours a week to compensate with school so I’m gonna slowly add stuff to the truck over the next year or two, but I’ve come to the conclusion that the wheels make the truck. So that’s what I wanna blow the rest of my money on. There’s a user on this thread named LonghornTaco and his build is linked below. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/longhorntacos-build-with-pics-now.17273/

I love the look of the truck, but it sits just a tad high. If anyone could help me out by directing me towards what parts I need at a “budget” price I would greatly appreciate it.

I like the tires that he has, but I’m not sure if they would fit on a smaller lift. If not, any recommendations on the size that would fit on say, a 2” lift?

And what size A/T style tires could i fit under the truck at stock height?

I’m really not gonna be wheeling, just some minimal dirt trails during hunting season.

I’d like to keep my budget as close to $2500 (Much lower if possible if possible lol) For the everything involved in the lift, rims, and tires. I already like the A/T style tires and I’m just gonna pick some rims to match the size of the tires (Puts me ~$1400 pre tax).

I really need some help with everything to be honest. This is my first car and thus I am basically clueless. I’d love to do as much as the work as possible myself, and I’d label myself “mechanically inclined” but take that with a grain of salt.

I’m really just looking for someone who’s willing to baby me through the process and/or has been in the same shoes I’m in now. If you’ve made it this far I sincerely thank you for your time.

I’m open to questions and criticisms

    Hey Nate !!
You can bump the thread you made yesterday instead of making a new one everyday. Just reply to your own thread with bump or to the top or anybody out there ? Etc.
I believe you can only bump once a day. That will move your thread up to current.
Someone will chime in and help.

First, it would help to know how the truck is lifted. On a Prerunner, spindles are common. All you would need to do is buy new spindles to lower it. If it's a suspension lift, you need to replace the suspension. Take a bunch of pics and post them. Get into the wheel wells and get pics of all the parts in there. Don't forget a couple of the whole truck, we'd love to see your new rig!

What size are those tires? The truck doesn't look lifted much. Slightly larger tires would fill in those wheel wells.

Edit: I'm losing my mind. I thought you wanted to lower the truck. 265/ 75/16 or 265/70/17 depending on wheel size will fill stock height wheel wells nicely. I painted my stock wheels and I really like it. Aftermarket wheels didn't suit my needs. Wheels (or spacers) that push the tire out of the wheel well will likely cause rubbing when you turn. I like to keep the tire inside the wheel well.

Hey man thanks for your reply. I believe the tires on the truck are 265/70(or75icanttellfromthepictureitook)/16. I'm talking to someone on FB Marketplace about buying his 2016 17" TSS rims. There gonna be about half the price of the aftermarket ones i was looking at so i think ill pick em up. And the more I look into lifting the truck at all the more i notice the money flowing out of my checking account. Im not gonna do any XTREME off roading, so If i do end up lifting the truck at all ill just install a TAC25-05 - Toytec 2.5" Lift Kit to get a little more room. But for now (or until i win the lotto) im just gonna keep it at stock height. What type of tire do you run? I am leaning towards the Falken WildPeak A/T3W.

I have 265/75/16 WildPeak A/T3W's on my truck currently, nothing but good things to say. Put about 32k miles on them so far, and they look like they're at 80% tread. Look into @SCSPerformance wheels, they look awesome on our trucks

These trucks are super capable in stock form. Keep the tire size. Put on a real IFS skid plate so you don't tear a hole in your oil pan. That will have you pretty well covered on the important stuff. Don't waste your money lifting it. You'll run into all kinds of issues, which just cost money. I have a very basic build, and I've been chasing gremlins ever since I leveled the front end.

Does the stock ride height have any wiggle room with bigger tires?

if you put 265 75 16 on those steel wheels it would look great already. I put 265 75 16 on my steel wheels on my 02 prerunner and that gave me an inch of lift along with filling out the fender gap nicely.

    There's a significant difference between 265/70/16 and 265/75/16
