Land Rover Defender!

I think the new Defender 2020 looks great, specially the back tail lights retro style look! It seems like there is two model options I read, engine that puts out 300hp and 400hp! And, very off road capable as well!

What you guys think??

I like it. The looks are a bit blah, but from that clip it seems like it pulls off the modern Land Rover trick of being far more capable than it looks. I think the new bronco takes the win on style points for sure. Wonder if they’ll be selling this defender stateside.

 

Land Rover? Too rich for my blood.

 

I think this was posted in the wrong section as it's not a 3rd gen. But, when they are cheap and CPO I'll check them out for sure.

 

At my local LR dealer this weekend.

 

I love the look and idea of the new Defender...BUT i don't trust LR reliability and repairs on these probably cost an arm and a leg unlike a Toyota or a Ford so I cold never see myself buying one new or used. The 400hp model is turbocharged, supercharged, and a hybrid which seems overly complicated.

 

I was going to jokingly ask if it was available in mint green. That's a nice color on that one.

Overall it looks like a Fiat, or a Bronco Sport. The Bronco Sport is more affordable so, I would probably buy a new Ranger if I was looking to take on some new debt.

 

They got the same color at my local dealership and a silver limited numbered (I believe) at a different dealership at 74k.

 

I would be too scared to wheel it. Land rovers aren't the cheapest of vehicles to repair.

 

You know what they say... Go in a Land Rover and LEAVE in a Land Cruiser. New Land Rovers are notorious for breaking.

 

Rented a land rover discovery recently, and was not impressed. I couldn't imagine that the new defender will be any different. Way over priced for what reminded me of a Ford Explorer. I could only imagine how much more I would have hated it if I had it long term and got to experience the issues.

 

Like...its all 3? How in the hell...

 

Reliability is as low as low can be...no thanks

I went down the Land Rover rabbit hole and came out financially devastated. Ok well that's a bit of an exaggeration lol.

I bought a 2004 Land Rover Discovery II with under 100K on the clock. The truck itself was awesome. It had a Atlas transfer case lockers it was fantastic off road. However the achilles heel of the LR DII was the V8 engine. LR decided to stick aluminum cylinder liners into a steel block. If the truck overheated just a little (and it was hard for it not to with coolant leaks up the wazoo) the liners would slip out of the cylinder holes and you could never get it to not over heat. There are aftermarket engines you can buy that have pinned liners that eliminate this failure but there expensive often costing more than the truck is worth.

An aluminum head bolted to a steel block with liners was always going to be a recipe for disaster.

I sunk in over 7 grand into the engine alone including a engine swap.

The saying goes in the LR Community, Do not own a LR or RR out of warranty.

There was a guy on Youtube who documented his first year of ownership of a new Range Rover. His repairs were over 11 thousand dollars in the first 8 months. A new horn cost 700 bucks lol. All of it was covered but this was a NEW Range Rover with 0 on the odometer.

 

Considering what Ford did with the Bronco, it is sort of funny that LR didn't get closer to that with this new thing.

Nothing will top the 90 or 110, but they seem to have missed the target by a lot.

I see so many RRs driving around with failed suspensions that it is almost comical.

 

They are taking a page from the Porsche playbook. Base price @ ~$50k and by the time you spec it well, you’re over $75k.
