I sold the drift boat. Need to start planning my next project. So many choices...

Am intrigued about one of these...

    Nah.

I have a handycap nephew that has been in a chair his whole life. His folks have taken him boating the whole time, but he is now an adult and obviously too big to bear hug over the sides of a boat. Something like this he could drive his chair right onto the boat.

Plus, I ain't a spring chicken myself. Walking onto a boat is pretty attractive.

This the finished version of the above boat.

I still say it'd be a shame not to storm at least one beach.

That's pretty cool! Would you build it from scratch or modify an existing boat?

It would be easier to build new.

I think people use them a lot to transport ATV's around coastal areas and such.
Not quite the same thing, but:

I knew there was a military variant of that. I guess I was more so referring to the fact that I had no idea there was a handicap accessible boat like that or any version of a handicap type watercraft. I guess by now I should have known, I’ve seen modified wheel chairs with skis bombing down a slope faster than me on my snowboard. Haha. It’s awesome how people are adapting and doing the same thing as anyone else without any handicaps.

So this is going to sound painfully obvious, but my goodness, having clean metal to weld makes all the difference. I’ve never bothered to clean off the millscale on these kits before but our conversation prompted me to do it. Took me 10-15 minutes to clean them up with my fancy new finishing wheels.

The clean metal just makes the arc more predictable and smooth. I’ll be taking the extra time from now on to do it. That, and using some clean scrap real quick to make sure the welder is dialed in and to “warm up”. @cynicalrider

Yea cleaning that shit off is pretty important. I even do that when flux coreing parts.

    Those do look nice.

I would have to do the math. I already know I weld just fine and my welds look fine with the presence of mill scale.

The time and cost of grinding wheels would have to be negligible for me to take time grinding them clean.

If I could get additional sets out the door not grinding, then they aren't getting cleaned up.

I already know you can make those parts without grinding. I'm guessing you know it too.

I know I could, but I’m not in a production environment so I can take all the time in the world if I want to. It was nice to just slow it down and take my time. Much more relaxing than just pumping it out with ok results.

That does change things. I wrongly assumed you were manufacturing these on a production basis.

    Keep showing your artwork.

I've been stuck at work, all I can do is think about my welding projects.

No definitely not. This was my way to unwind after 8 hours in front of a computer at work, it was quite nice! I’ll weld them on the truck next week sometime but he dropped them off ahead of time to save a little time on the day of.

I'm not searching, well because...but I need to know if I run a 20 amp dedicated line will my Lincoln 140 run okay? It requires 20 amps and I have that but there are other outlets on that service, and I keep blowing the fuse. I'm sure someone else has this welder or a similar (20 amp). Thanks :welder:
