In the spirit of lying about how much you paid on TacomaWorld (and this is my first post, so I am a rule-follower), they paid me for the 2020 Off Road with Tech, Premium and TRD exhaust. Actually pick it up on Friday, and was totally stoked until the dealer called me to tell me about the scratches from unloading. :( Anyway, prices are high, supply is constrained, and we pay higher prices in California I would guess. I'm still happy, and know that this is a 15-20 year purchase. Amortize it, and it doesn't hurt so much.

Interesting! Didn't even know such a thing existed for Toyotas. Frankly, I'm surprised no one else has made it at least an option with how it has been successful on Fords.

Working on that detail now. Probably just the clearcoat, so perhaps buffable with minor effort. I won't accept if not OK. Discount or accessories may be the outcome if I play my cards right.

The dealer dropped the selling price to 37,505 (includes rebate) before taxes and fees.

    What do you guys think?

    Thanks @vmart
    This one is in AZ.
    It's around 7% off MSRP
I'm still thinking about it, it's tough after seeing prices from back in April/May.

I'd put the April/May prices behind you. Probably a good price now a days especially with that combo.

Threads like these get you within the ballpark of a great deal. 7% might within the ballpark of a great deal right now. Searching for the absolute lowest price is tough, you risk losing out on the deal or time you could have been enjoying the truck. There will always be someone who gets a lower priced deal. As long as it seems like a fair deal and you can afford it, enjoy the truck!

Flights to Phoenix are $59 - $100 one way.
I agree with @Naszero 7% right now is pretty good. I had my name on a truck for Sept because the fleet guy said maybe by then he can get me a discount. Reminds me i've got to cancel it.
It was basically what you have except the tonneau. Got to have the LED Headlights for sure. $485 from factory is a great price. Mine look awesome.
I'm so glad my search is over. It's not my first choice Cement, but White was my second.

    Great advice here.
    Thanks for your input.

That’s the same truck I’ll be getting in the next couple months. Have not had any luck in southern Cali for anything under MSRP, so I’m probably just going to order one since I don’t really need it until December. Good deal!

Don’t you have to put down a deposit and thus negotiate price at today’s prices to “order”? I had to when I ordered. Why not just wait til December when supply and prices have come back to normal?

I think most dealers make you put down a nominal and refundable deposit of around $500, but it probably depends on the dealer and circumstances. Since it is refundable it doesn't really hold you to anything, so it is more just to show intent. I placed an order a couple years ago and had to put down a $500 deposit, but this year when I did another order at the same dealer they didn't even bother getting it from me. Obviously if you do put down the deposit and take the truck when it comes in, they just add it to your down payment anyway.

As far as pricing goes, I don't know if there any "rules" on if you negotiate the price immediately or when the truck comes in. Technically they can't really go through the financing portion until they have the truck on the lot and ready to sell to you. Because of that, they can't guarantee any incentives either until they have it in and so you are at the mercy of whatever the Toyota incentives are at that time. I ordered mine in late Feb/early March and negotiated the price then, which was kind of average at 7-8% off I think. It took until mid July to arrive and because of that we are in this shortage and they were pretty much selling them at MSRP to walk-in customers. Luckily I reminded them we agreed on the price months ago and was able to get them to honor that. I don't know if they would have HAD to though or not, but they were good enough to do so.

In times like this, it would probably be better to wait on setting price until the truck is in. Hopefully by then stock will be rising and prices will go back to what they were!

Yeah, exactly the same thing I did. What I’m getting at is kind of what you were alluding to that by ordering one I’m putting down a deposit refundable as it may be even though they will probably try and fight you on it but you can definitely get it back, you are decreasing your bargaining position. If you ordered and put a deposit down on one, it’s pretty obvious that you want it. As opposed to just walking into a dealership in December and saying that you don’t really need a truck but could be persuaded to buy one if the price is right.

I'm not aware of any deposits being required for purchases at this time -- I ordered one a few weeks ago and put no money down (I'm also not obligated to buy it either). I believe you're correct about when its time to negotiate, because we didn't talk any numbers yet - I assume this comes when the truck arrives in a few weeks. That being said, I am not going directly through a dealer (going through a broker).
