Any off road friendly beaches on the cape? It would be sick to rip some dunes. I’m probably dreaming though.

There’s a pass to get onto the beach which you apply for at the National Seashore website. No ripping allowed on the dunes with the speed limit at 15MPH. You have to stay in marked trails until parking. They enforce it too.

I did see a hybrid Yukon but it reduced towing capacity. Don't know of any other hybrids that are rated to tow 7k plus and are under $30k

Thanks. I don't deal directly with the kids too often in my position (technology director)--it's mostly my techs that do. So, I don't run into the exposure situation as much as others in the event that everyone is back in the buildings. But, I could not imagine being busier right now. I'm dealing with about a dozen projects at the same time in addition to what my summer usually looks like. My brain is basically mush. I took Monday off for a breather, but I've spent pretty much all day today on work-related stuff knowing that if I didn't then didn't look at anything on Monday, the rest of the week would be a nightmare.

@taco-houla it's also AWD so that might be why you thought it was higher

I'm actually surprised they reduced the towing on it. I can see reducing payload since I'm sure it's heavier than the straight gas version, but they can usually keep towing the same unless there's a another weakness in the system (which, with a full sized hybrid is very likely the case)

Hybrid these days is usually offered in higher trims.

Like @taco-houla said, its awd which is heavier and also found in higher trim. I bet there is 500 or more lbs of sound deadening and extra wiring they have to compete with, and then include the battery.

hmmm maybe. I just figured it would be a bit higher considering isn’t the canyon/Colorado diesel pulling like 30 highway? Maybe it’s because of the awd. Just thought it would be higher, but hey I haven’t done a lot of cross shopping before.

hybrid was a thought and then I started looking at them. Towing capacities are a lot lower than I expected. You’d have to rebuild suspension probably, I think the power is there and stopping is there but batteries are heavy.

Happy day off in RI today everyone :p

I think the half ton diesels are pushing 30 MPG also. So, by comparison, the Colorado isn't as impressive. Diesels are just like any forced induction engine, if they're working, they're not going to do as well on fuel economy. When they're in boost, they're sucking in more air but keeping the same air fuel ratio so more air = more fuel = more powa :burnrubber:.

As far as towing numbers go, there's a lot more to it than the weight of the trailer even though that's the only number that most people seem to focus on. I'll take Ford as an example since they often advertise the 13k lb 'best in class' towing capacity. The issue is, unless you have the unicorn, regular cab, 4x4 with the max trailer and heavy payload package, your F150 doesn't have the cargo capacity to handle the tongue weight of a 13k lb trailer. If the stars align and you find a boat trailer that has a light tongue but a lot of weight, you might be able to actually find a configuration in which you are legally within the limits and towing 13k lbs with a F150. Real world application, you're likely going to be limited to the 5-7k lb range for towing with a half ton unless you're really diligent about weight distribution.

keep in mind payload includes me too. :) I had an extra burger for dinner last night. :p

yeah that’s part of why the hybrids are lower for towing ratings I think is because so much payload is already taken up by the batteries.

Sort of. Some of the manufacturers have worked hard to divorce towing and payload based on the new 'towing tests' required by the Gubment. Diesels are a great example of that, a truck will usually have a set GVWR for a certain platform so, heavier engine means less available payload, but the diesels can pull much better so they're able to give it the same, if not a better towing rating. That's why the reduced payload with a hybrid doesn't surprise me but I thought they would have kept the tow rating comparable to the gas model. There must be something else limiting the hybrid's towing abilities.

    Morning all, Happy Monday...

I hadn't planned on doing any cabinetry work this weekend, but my range hood & attached cupboards had other ideas.
    20200808_104309_resized.jpg

    20200808_104331_resized.jpg

Cheap particleboard had let go. At a guess, the poorly-installed (they just had it duct-taped in  ) vent pipe had come loose and was venting into the hood rather than to the outside, so when I did my canning (lots of steam) Friday night it worked away at the glue on the particle board, because Saturday morning I walked in on the mess.

Trashed the stovetop, too. So we're going to take this 'opportunity' to install propane instead of just replacing it with another electric unit.

The other thing people don't realize is the payload listed in a brochure is based on a bare-bones truck with crank windows and it's almost impossible to achieve that number. My truck's configuration is listed at 2150 lbs of payload, for example. The door sticker says 1744. So, I have over 400 lbs of options on top of a base truck.

Get into the really heavy options that I don't have like massaging seats, dual panel moonroof, and even FX4 with the skid plates and that number will get much worse, especially given SuperCrews are already 100 lbs lower than my SuperCab. I believe Limiteds are lower than my DCLB Tacoma in the end.

No, we spent the night at camp. Probably scared the hell out of the cats, if they were inside when it happened. I walked in to it Saturday morning. I had planned just to grab some things and spend the day floating around on the lake with a beer. Instead I made a trip to Hammond Lumber for plywood and started building new cabinet boxes. But I apparently don't have enough large clamps, so I could only do one box per day while the glue set.

    20200809_195927_resized.jpg

    20200809_200042_resized.jpg

But, since it damaged the range hood as well and I had to special order the replacement it turns out that there's really no rush on finishing them. 7-14 days for the replacement range hood insert to come in. :frusty:
