So I finally got my truck and my thoughts have turned to tires.

I was going to upgrade the tires right away but I’ve decided to keep the stock tires for now. I’m now looking at winter tire options on steel rims.

Any recommendations on which winter you guys like best.

Also, someone said I should consider a narrower size for winter tires. What’s everyone’s thoughts on narrower winter tires?

    Thanks

Any all-terrain should serve you better in the winter than the stock tires that come on the truck. But yeah, I’d run them bald too. You paid for them when you bought the truck. The Falken Wildpeaks are popular around here. I’m not so sure about narrow vs wider tires in that aspect.

I've been thinking about replacing my Toyo Open Country A30 tires for the Wildpeaks or Cooper STT MAXX. We do get snow and ice. Not sure if Toyo can handle it. It is my first 4WD truck after driving VWs for 20+ years, and all of them had winter tires.

No reason to run them bald when you can sell them yourself on craigslist or OfferUp and get the tires you want sooner
Falken wildpeaks seem to make people happy
    I went with Duratracs

I went with the wildpeaks to help with the northern WI snow and ice and could not be happier with how they perform in the snow/ice. Use to always have dedicated summer/winter tires for my cars but having one do all set on the truck is nice and cheaper

I have cyped Toyo M/T's and I ski 50+ times a season. No problem getting to the mountain even in the worst of weather. They eat ice and snow for breakfast all while laughing at the goofballs chaining up along side the road. Can't go wrong Toyo in my book

I agree 100%. If you think the Nokians cost too much, Blizzak DMV2s are a great alternative. The Michelins are supposed to be good too, but didn’t have enough tread depth for my liking.

Same. They’ve been excellent across all weather conditions.

Looking at new Blizzaks here to replace my 8 season DM-V1 this fall..
There are other good ones out there, but Nokians, Blizzak, and Michelin are tops for snoflake winters.

I run 255/70R17 for winter, they were great. Probably just get 265/70R17 this time though- I don't do too much blasting through powder, more likely partly covered/compact slush.

No tire can compare to a dedicated winter tire in winter conditions on roads. I have been using Toyo Observe winters for 20+ years in the high Rocky Mountains of Colorado with great results. They do not wear down as fast as Bizzaks, but have ground up walnut shells in the tread rubber.

Michelin X ICE 2. They have great tread life and are awesome in the wet slush not just the snow and ice. My experience is they are better than the Blizzaks in every department, including road noise.

A great AT all year is what most people do on these trucks, but if you aren’t the off-road type, dedicated winter tires are far superior for this purpose on the street.
