I agree with drivetrain and shifters, those are the only two I’ve used and was happy with both. We were mainly talking about pedals though.

As far as chain lubes. It really depends on the climate you ride in. Wet muddy or dry dusty. I’ve used so many but found better ones for dry conditions which is mainly my trails. The dry lubes are wax based and don’t gunk up from the dusty dry conditions in the west. Not a worry in the east. Rock N Roll lube and White Lightning make lines for both type of conditions as does Finish Line.

I use white lightning and wd40 degreaser. The wd40 brand foams up a ton. I currently use muck off lube and it’s decent. If you have any carbon bits then you probably want some carbon paste too.

If you really wanna ball out, check out Abbey Tools. You know, in case you need a titanium shop mallet.

Some of their other tools are quite reasonably priced, but some are absurd. Then again, its like comparing a hyundai to a maserati. They both have 4 wheels and get you to work, but one has a plastic dash and the other has hand stitched alcantra seats.

Well half of them seem to be gifts for friends with bike shops, the other half mention travelling boxes, which almost guarantees they are EWS/DH mechanics

and then there's this guy, who is admittedly upfront about his wanton purchase

    Good place to Start...

RnR is the shit. I go back and forth between gold and blue, depending on season.

Well, kinda. You have to remember that makes sense for someone who's doing a lot of work on bikes. If you're working on precision stuff, your living depends on it, you're on it all day, etc., it makes sense to buy tools that make your life easier everyday.
Kinda like comparing Craftsman to Snap-On.

You see this everywhere, like the crazy $1,150 ...

Plus the titanium hammers, etc save weight which means less overweight baggage fees.

oOOo. very pretty. I was plannign ton doing the same thing with my black bike. black it out wiht a black fork and stuff and only do accent colors on grips and stuff. Maybe even find oil slick bolts and colored cable ends. Haven't decided just yet what to do.

I've just kept some of th epark tool PPL stuff handy and they work great. I have a can of WD-40 but ended up just using the ecotech stuff for degreasing. As for chain lube, I've been using a combination of the muc-off stuff (it's expensive) and chain butter.

We are staying in the area, wife just wants a place on the water. I work from home full time (even pre-Covid) and it's looking like she may be able to as well on a more permanent basis. We talked about moving to Asheville permanently but it really would work better to stay close to Charlotte, just don't really need to be Uptown anymore if we are both WFH.
