I'm looking at buying a 2007 Tacoma v6 sr5 4x4 with a 3" lift and chrome rims + spacer. The private seller wants $9000. It needs a muffler and new tires. But I had two mechanics I know and trust look at it and they both said that it was a solid truck. Is this a good deal? Or no. Also it has 147k miles and a touch screen fold out radio installed.

Location can be a factor... does it have any rust?

I got 11k out of my 2008 with 167k, so since it's been checked by 2 different mechs I wouldn't be afraid of it. I'd for sure see if the frame has been inspected and coated, or replaced. Just my opinion.

O.P. get under the truck and look at the frame for rust issues yourself, don't rely on anybody else.

You need to visit the truck and look at it yourself to figure out the rest. Truck can look good in pictures, but won't catch everything, like smells. Get inside and drive the truck. Crawl under and take a look. Go through as much things as possible. Engage 4x4, open the compartments, etc. There are so many trucks I've taken a look at and it was not "excellent" as advertised.

Go look, you don't want to be that guy who just dropped 9k on a truck he can't drive because the frame is disintegrating.

If the gate and bumper are rusty, ide bet my left nut the frame is nasty. unless it was recently replaced.

    ^^^^ This

Go underneath that rascal and look at everything. Frame, boots, shocks, exhaust system, bands on the gas tank, Etc. If there is rust on that tailgate, there is rust somewhere else.

13 years in Michigan is a long time to rust any truck, let alone the tacoma frame. And I'd take off $900 for those chrome looking wheels.

Those are the 'chrome clad" factory wheels that came on some Limited Sport models 2012 era. It looks like they have wheel spacers behind them. They don't normally sit out past the wheelwells in the stock config

Wheels are cheap, much cheaper than a frame. :D

O.P. listen to the advice given here on TW,way to many buyers get burned by NOT looking the trucks over themselves BEFORE buying.

I crawled under my truck to look it over and was pleasantly surprised by finding new rear leaf's, U bolts, plates and left over fluid film on the frame. It was in good shape and it helped me to make an informed decision along with reading the Carfax on it. Spending that kinda money is worth your inspection time or having it professionally looked over by a local mechanic in my opinion.
