They run us through this very drill several times in the academy. Hostage taker using an innocent as a shield showing only their head. Had to draw and fire in an absurdly short amount of time. Like 2 seconds...all I remember is it was quick, and a lot of push ups if you hit the hostage. Luckily I never had to experience the push-ups.

The cop had options. Taser on the left & gun on the right. Somewhere 30 seconds in he holsters the taser after the turd took his hostage.

 

He did not die from the 8 rounds he took, he died from (*****-insert number here).
