TRD Sport vs TRD Pro

You guys are having a pretty long discussion for an OP that is probably never coming back. Dude has a Subaru and just needs more space, a 4wd Sport is more than enough

 

They just need to know that TW splits hairs with the very best of them.

Food for thought, he’s deciding on a huge purchase. Not to mention the sport is the most pathetic model in the Tacoma lineup.

 

sorry, paying a huge markup for a fake hood scoop and harsh suspension isn’t my idea of money well spent.

I think there is a battle going on in your head that isn't happening here.

Especially as the OP was asking about an MT Sport or an MT Pro.

That said, with just the SWB, the Sport has not let me down off or on road.

Tacos, all of them, are plenty capable in stock form and not all that far apart until the mods happen.



I will say it all day long:

On the road, a Sport with the SWB feels like a stock OR.

This is great. Thanks for all the info. I'll re-read to parse the different thoughts on the suspensions, which is my major concern.

I'm not sure about doing mods but it looks like I've found the right community for guidance on that.

I've gone back and looked at available package upgrades on the Sport and here is a list of things available on the Pro that I can't get via upgrade:

Grill (Heritage design)
16” TRD wheels
Multi Terrain Monitor
JBL Speakers
Locking Differential
A-TRAC
Suspension as described

Based on the Toyota website, the Pro is $45 k and the Sport with upgrades is $42 k. It seems like I can upgrade the speakers and grill and make any suspension mods for less than that. The rest seems geared for off road and I'm not sure it's worth it. (Although, I live in Chicago and frankly our streets are pretty bad

 

A Pro in manual is going to be a lot harder to find but worth it imo. Last figure I saw posted said they only make 5,000 pros a year. At the 5% take rate for manuals that would put it at 250 total. White wasn't my first color choice but the manual transmission was a deal breaker for me. Good luck with your search.

Seems like you’ll be able to make a solid decision based off a test drive of both models since your primary concern is road feel.

 

You wont get JBL with a manual. Dealers try to use the "Premium Audio" as an interchangeable term and its not the same. It's one of life's great mysteries why that is with the speaker options between transmissions.
