Making a sheet metal box, that does not seal perfectly as a place to pull air from, is not as good as the factory design that pulls the air from outside the engine compartment.

The stock intake is pretty good.

Agreed on the loud. My son told me today my truck sounds like a boat, and not in a good way. Lol!!
Truck came with the plastic K&N CAI, and I am looking for an OEM air box setup currently.

That's the way my 2011 was when I got it, too, with a K&N that was less of a CAI than the stock one that pulls air from the fender. Found a used OEM one on eBay and have been pleased with the change.

Just ordered an OEM one from eBay this afternoon, so hopefully it has everything I’ll need. I guess I need to shop for a spoiler, or bigger exhaust tip to make up for all the horsepower I’m about to lose....
