What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

It is a straight 55 incher, very similar to the one in the pic in that post you quoted. A 270° wrap around awning is a lot different and will be much heavier.

 

Figured it would be. I'm seeing them upwards of 55 lbs. So wondering if a roof rack - just towers + load bars, installed on my topper would be fine to hold it. I like the idea of having coverage next to the truck and over the tailgate area.

 

I've got one installed on my Prinsu caprac and it holds up fine

 

Anyone Got any suggestions for a good camping tote, currently using milk crates for my kitchen/cook stuff. I was going to buy two of the front runner wolf pack boxes but they are sold out. It was pretty dusty where i was this past weekend and just whooped all my cook ware. So I wanna figure out something better.

 

I typically use those Costco black crates with the yellow lids, they fit width wise really well in the bed. But I've also used shipping plastic crates, and those fit well too but not quite as snug. I don't have a camper shell and I've never had problems with snow or rain with my basic costco crates.

 

Not a bad idea much cheaper than the action packer crates

 

I looked at doing action Packers, but I was ultimately underwhelmed with what you get for the price. It's the same plastic but with a double layer lid... And little snap handles that will probably break after being thrown around in the bed.

 

I've used action Packers and they hold up surprisingly well. That being said, the wolf packs are way better. I like that they're stackable, and don't taper down at the bottom.

probably not what you're looking for but the ones that both my dad and I have been using forever are ones that we made. just some 1/2" plywood, wood glue, and nails. doesn't sound like much but the old one that my dad used to use lasted for over 30 years. the only reason that we built a new one for him was cause his camp stove shat the bed and he needed a new one to fit the new stove. now i'm using the old one and it feels like it'll last another 30 years. not too weatherproof mind you, but it looks like you're running a canopy anyways (looking at your profile pic).

just my .02... the materials would probably cost about the same, but having used milk crates and yellow top costco boxes the home made ones hold up much better. depends on what you need in a camping tote though, as well as what tools you have access to.

Well front runner said within 2 weeks for the re stock so I’m going to wait and grab a couple of those.

 

I currently and reluctantly have 4 small Action Packers and 2 larger ones:
3 fit perfectly between the bed between the wheel wells with a strachits on top and behind to hold them against the front of the bed.
I only use one larger action packer with a bungee at the aft of the bed close to the tailgate.



Now if I had my druthers, I would get the Swiss Link aluminum storage boxes:
medium and small
stackable
strachitable
dual purpose stove top
weather tight
light.
Not so easy on the wallet, though
