Waited for 2 hours today at Discount and then they said they wont repair tire. I have a whopping 2900 miles on the truck so tires are practically new. Should I just get a repair kit and call it a day?

Why did they tell you they can not repair it?

I'd patch it and use it as a spare. Either rotate the current spare onto the truck (assuming it's new and matches) or buy a new tire for the truck.

My guess is to close to the sidewall but yeah throw a plug in you will be fine.

    Stuff, things, this, an ADS
With in a certain measurement of the sidewall. If it has so little miles on them just get a new tire. I’d rather be safe then sorry if you can’t plug it yourself

I would assume because it is too close to the sidewall. Usually that area flexes too much and will cause the plug to fail eventually.

Yup a shop definitely won’t do that because it’s too close to the edge. I did one that close or even closer to the edge on my old Mazda and it held for about 10k miles at least before I got new tires. :notsure:

Looked again. Yeah mine was as close definitely not closer. Woops. yeah I’d just patch it. Just pay attention when you pull it out, if it goes straight then you’re fine but if it angled toward the side wall, iffy.

I've ridden thousand of miles on plugged motorcycle tires. I would give it a shot.

Tire shops tend to be very conservative about the ends of the tread area.

I worked at a shop in Chicago all through college. Get a plug you will be perfectly fine. We had city workers come get plugs all the time, driving on the same tire with like 5 plugs in it. It's a chemical reaction where the heat from the road melts the plug. You can go 50,000 miles no problem. Not too close to the sidewall at all.

I was continually getting stupid fine punctures just after mounting up a new set. Stuff like this:
    Sliver.jpg

Never a hint of an issue or reduced performance. So, I got real comfortable with them. I also had a chance to inspect them on the next swap and always came away happy.

That's really close to the sidewall. As the saying goes, the most important piece of safety equipment on any vehicle are your tires. Is it worth the risk for a couple hundred dollars for a new tire?

I'd probably just use it as an excuse to upgrade my tires. Haven't got a puncture or flat in my ST Maxx yet and I've gotten a fair few screws in 'em.
