Because the new truck Crews don't know how to operate ratchet straps, so no need for a place to keep them any more

Until you are hauling a load in the bed and get a flat tire and realize the spare is inside that compartment... D'oh!

    No TSS-P!!! :D

Weird. Before the topper, I had four ratchet straps in the right one and a 30ft strap, 3/4in shackle, receiver shackle, and receiver pin the the left one. I couldn't toss the stuff in willy-nilly, but it all fit.

    Deal!

Motocamping taught me a lot. But then, I was bringing more than I needed.

As a side note, my 2020 TRD OR came with a trailer hitch. Month or two later I saw some mud and gunk getting in the open hole so I started to research simple trailer plugs. You know, those two inch plastic plugs that you just push in. So I called the dealer and he said they used to be free but you now have to buy them but if you come by I will just give you one. Something they used to provide them for free but now they are like $7. Since the dealer was so far away I just ordered from Amazon. But still.

    Accountants now rule the world.

That, I also agree with. Not to mention the fact that it is a donut and not a full size spare.

My last flat happened with a bed full of treated lumber, can't imagine how much more pissed I would have been if I had to unload it on the side of the road. Oh wow that sucks even more that it has a donut spare too!

Whew. That is way better to hear. Also, this is the first time I've seen those boxes, so sorry I can't mindread everyone's memories ahead of time to see what you know before I comment. o_O

They were removed when the new robots were put into place, they were designed without the claws that lifted and positioned the bed insert into place. Old robots needed them, new ones don’t. The win for Toyota is less logistics to be concerned with and a couple steps removed from the assembly process.

They are easy to find and retrofit just like the rear storage boxes.

Interesting, still wonder the loss of the rear box 2019 on as that clearly is not robot related.

Now that I know they are removable, I could see them being good organizers for camping in the bed of the truck, as long as we can still fit a twin mattress in the middle.

I think they are a pretty stupid gimmick. Definitely not for me but I’m sure some people will desire them.
