What's your budget out of curiosity? Looks like it's anywhere between about $600 (Vitus) and a couple thousand depending on the Tallboy build.
You riding locally, Lime Ridge, Shell Ridge, Briones, etc? Traveling anywhere for riding?

At the moment, trying to stay near $1500 or less. I’ve had a hard tail and full suspension and honestly enjoy both. Riding locally, as well as various spots around CA and Oregon as we travel quite a bit. All these bikes are available under $1400 if that makes any difference.

Without seeing the bikes, my vote would go towards the SC Tallboy. Especially at sub $1500.

FWIW, I can ride everything local to us and have good fun on my hardtail (Surly Karate Monkey, 140mm travel). Every once in a while, I do wish I was on a full suspension for the local stuff, but the climbs make me happy I'm on a hardtail. The SC TB isn't too long of a travel bike where it'd be super inefficient on the local climbs, while still giving you the comfort for the way down.

Well, the guy literally just responded and said I think the bike is sold...after confirming we were on for today. Guess that takes care of one option, haha. I'm thinking the Vitus is a pretty solid setup and saves money for now. I don't really NEED the rear suspension, was just something I wanted. Another guy was selling a 2015 Scott FR 720, but having a heavier bike with dual crown fork won't be great on uphills, HA!

Damn, that's a bummer. Hate when stuff gets sold out from under someone.

That Scott will hurt to ride on anything local. Would take a bunch of the fun out of it.

Have you been checking Pinkbike? There's usually a ton for sale near us
    https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/li...121.0377&distance=144&category=2&price=..2000
Also check out BAMBi Buy and Sell on the book of faces. Might have some luck there

Yup, been checking quite a bit. Many things are inflated, so I could be better off waiting a bit. Right now I am considering a 2015 Giant Stance 1 or 2016 Ghost FS 3 for same price...hmm

That’s a sweet build on a sweet frame. I’d go for that if I was in the market. It’s a better bike used than you could get any new bike for at that price point.

I can definitely understand that -- it's beautiful here!

That said, I'm still not sold on the trails down here. Most of the ones I've tried in the Sierra Vista area are just miles-long rock gardens with a lot of technical climbs. The downhills are then not very rewarding after all the effort to get up. They're also littered with random loose rocks that will just straight-up kill you if you get too much speed and ride them blindly.

Again, though, the mountains and canyons are definitely still amazing to look at, hike, etc. I've been coming here for two decades and always love the skies, mountains, and summer storms.

I think the trails in Tucson are calling my name next. I plan to hit them next weekend and find a place to camp while I'm there. It's just too bad that a lot of the best stuff is closed right now after the Bighorn Fire wiped out most of Mount Lemon and the surrounding hills. :(

Since just about everything is closed, I been doing a lot of riding. Civilization may be doomed but I'm in shape for the AARP Tour de France. Wore out the bike's drivetrain, waiting for parts.

My Giant Trance has served me well. Reasonably priced, relatively speaking. Don't worry about a few ounces here or there. Save a few bucks for a dropper post.

Hell yeah, let me know if you head to Lime or Shell Ridge. I usually ride there at least a few times a week

Will do! Need to shake the cobwebs off now, it’s been a while since I’ve done an actual ride.

Got plenty of training routes up my sleeve if interested. I find that shell ridge is great for training and Lime Ridge is better for having a lot of fun.
